Hans owned the car for many years and He fell into disrepair and the car was acquired by a restorer of such automobiles who resided in Poland. The new Polish owner who was in the business of restoring Mercedes SLs for his own account and did not restore either other makes or for other people. He had a staff of approximately 7 individuals. Five of which were ex Mercedes mechanics who had moved back to Poland from Germany. In 2006 he purchased it from the factory at a parts liquidation sale. a large amount of materials that the factory retained for earlier automobiles. Simultaneously with his purchase of the SL he purchased another 250 SL and restored both of them at the same time.
