Chevrolet introduced the Impala in 1958 as an upmarket version of the popular Bel Air model. For 1959. the Impala was a stand alone model and became the flagship for the GM Division. That year brought a striking new design that literally turned the 50's tail fins on their sides. and also brought about a lower. wider and slightly longer car than its predecessors.
