Triumph Stag project

Triumph Stag 1972.

Here we have a non running V8 auto.  

I will do my best to describe it as I don't want to waste your or my time- If you win the bid I will expect you to buy and not haggle afterwards. you are free to inspect at your leisure.

I brought this car to repair and use in the summer. I brought it from my neighbour who has had it for the last 10 years. only took a cursory check over the car as it was clear that it had been dry stored and well looked after. I thought about just replacing the heads but after closer inspection I have been advised that I will need to factor in more cost than I had originally planned.  Not a major problem but i have 3 other projects on the go so I could do without the added cost and storage space. If the car doesn't sell this week It will move to a store next weekend and it will go under wraps until I have time to tackle it. This is not your usual basket case. it is a genuine car that it a great start point and someone with mechanical knowledge could get this up and running in no time at all- come and see for yourself!

As you can see from the pictures the car is really solid -  It has had been restored in the past and has been dry stored for the last 10 years (Its wet because the garage has it parked outside. !) Paint is in a fair condition with only a small blemish here and there. There is a couple of small blisters appearing on the boot lid rim. and another on the bottom of one of the doors. all arches are in great condition with only 1 that has a small area that needs attention (Small crack at the top of the arch)

Both Hard Top and soft tops are present. Interior is in great condition for the year. with no rips etc. wood looks in good condition. carpets look good. Hard top headliner could do with a spruce up though. Rear screen rubber looks like it has seen better days and could do with a new one. Hard top trim is missing around the bottom edge- needs to be replaced.

Bumpers look a little tired and could do with a re-chrome. Over-riders front and back. /p>

Now the areas that need work.

The engine dropped a valve several years ago and due to the previous owner having a serious accident he was not able to repair it- the Engine has been stripped down for inspection and you can see the crown of the piston has an indentation. not sure if it is possible to repair or you may want to replace. there is a tiny amount of movement on the piston and it may require a stripdown. the heads have been removed with NO snapped bolts. I have the original heads and a pair of replacements. a set of gaskets. another oil cooler (The one on the car looks a little tired) . an electric fan is also present. the former owner confirmed he had no heating/cooling problems but the valve bent before he had the time to use for an extended period. There is a small bit of crud on the battery tray- not a huge issue though.

The tyres look good but could do with a good once over as it has been stranding for a while. Brakes will need flushing through too

Dont forget you buying a 40 year old car for restoration. non runner No MOT.
