1972 HILLMAN AVENGER TIGER Mk1. Excellent and very original car. for sale

1972 ‘K' Hillman Avenger Tiger Mk1.  Sundance Yellow. Very rare and original.

Having to relist after the guy who hit buy it now after 30 mins of it being listed last time disappeared. having not seen the car or had the courtesy to reply to my texts or emails since Friday about payment or collection.
Extremely rare car. only 200 Mk1s were ever made by the Chrysler Competitions Centre. of which this is probably one of less than 25 remaining original Mk1s world wide.  The later Mk2s were more “productionised”. based on the twin round headlight GL shell. and made in larger numbers

This particular car was subject to a major body restoration by the Chairman of the Avenger and Sunbeam Owners Club just before I bought from him in early 2008. The restoration was completed retaining the original shell. interior. engine. gearbox and as many panels as could be saved.

I am only the 3rd owner and I bought this car 5 years ago after a multi-year search for an immaculate. and. above all. original Tiger.  It has probably done less than 2. 00 dry miles since it was restored.

MOT'd until March 2014. having flown through again with no advisories. it comes ready to go with 12 months “tax” although it is classified as “historic” and so the road “tax” is free. classic car insurance is less than £80 a year. making
this a very cheap retro performance car to run.

The dream was to own a car my father had when I was a teenager. but reality now is that I have too many other cars and it is not being used. and it takes up valuable space so I plan to sell this. a Barchetta and a M635CSi to consolidate these into one.

This car is an original Mk1 Tiger. and not one that has been reshelled into a less rotten Super. or DL shell with Tiger stripes and parts moved across. as many have been over the years. It is correct in every way that I can think of. only the wheels are Minilite replicas. as the original magnesium ones had corroded badly.  It has all the original and difficult to find parts. such as the original twin Weber 40's airbox. dash mounted rev counter. recovered Restall seats. all four spot lamps with correct covers. an uncracked dashboard. even the black fuel cap. etc.

I have every single MOT since it was new and a folder full of documentation. including sales invoice to 2nd owner in 1974. many receipts (including engine rebuild and unleaded cylinder head upgrade. from many moons ago) and the original Avenger. and Tiger. handbook supplements.

Overall. it is in excellent condition throughout and the only modifications from original are an immobiliser and a non-period JVC CD player with 2 flush mounted speakers on the rear shelf.

However. although nearly 100%. as you may expect with a 40 year old car there are some minor jobs on the “to do list” that really ought to be done to make it perfect.

   -    The heater matrix needs replacing (new one provided) as it leaked and is bypassed currently (or only use the car in summer like I do !)

   -    Headlining has sagged at rear window.

   -    New boot carpet provided. but needs trimming to fit properly

   -    The speedo stopped working sometime ago

   -    Rev counter and spotlights need rewiring

As I had originally planned to keep for many years I have accumulated a number of spare parts that will be included in the sale:

Refurbished brake servo. new front disks. new petrol tank. gearbox (jumps out of 2nd. needs rebuild). clutch cable. water pump. viscous fan. fuel pump. new hoses. and a box full of service parts.

It also comes with a set of newly refurbished Tiger Mk2 Exacton alloys with bolts and nearly new tyres in case you prefer the look of these.

The car is based near Watford. just off the M25 / M1 and can be viewed/driven/examined before the auction ends.    As per many other auctions please remember to view and ask any questions you may have before "buying".
Due to being let down by previous "buyer" I will need a £250 deposit to be paid by paypal as soon as you have "won"'. sorry but I hate being messed about.  I will refund this if you come to see the car and don't buy.
I can probably arrange delivery within 100 miles at your cost  if you require once the full balance has been received and cleared by my bank.

(Please note the price is reflecting the “to do” list).  Possible P/ex for other classic.

Hi,

I've been dreaming of one of these rare Avenger Tigers for ages! Perhaps now is finally the right time to add one to my small collection of classic cars?
Needless to say I have a ton of questions! I hope you don't mind? Could you possibly contact me on andersbilidt (a) hotmail dot com
Much easier to communicate directly rather than through this site.
Hope to hear from you soon...

Best Regards,
Anders.
