THIS COULD BE THE NICEST CONCOURSE RESTORED 1970 (H Code) #'S MATCHING PLYMOUTH DUSTER ON EARTH.   I HAVE BEEN A MOPAR ENTHUSIAST MY ENTIRE LIFE.   IF THERE IS A NICER RESTORED A-BODY MUSCLE CAR OUT THERE I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT.

I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT THIS VERY CAR WON THE MOPAR NATIONALS IN 2011 IN THE RESTORED ORIGINAL CLASS.   I AM IN THE PROCESS OF VERIFYING THAT BUT IT WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME IN THE LEAST.   THIS CAR IS STUNNING AND WINS EVERY CONTEST I ENTER IT IN INCLUDING "BEST RESTORED ORIGINAL" CLASS IN LAST YEARS AUTORAMA SHOW IN SALT LAKE CITY.

Description:

Like I said. I have never laid my eyes on a nicer A Body in all my life. I have never seen its equal and it wins 1st place at every show I take it to.   Everything on this car came with it.

Vin # VS29H0E149493 this is an LA Built Car with it's original 340 (H-code) engine (and all of its components) freshly rebuilt by one of the premier machine shops / engine builders in the country right back to OEM specs. Original to the engine is the Carter 4937S Carburetor (recently restored by Steve Smith at Harms Auto). Intake. X-Heads. rockers. rods. crank. pan. windage tray bolts and basically all of it. Forged Aluminum Pistons were used in place of the original factory pistons when the engine was rebuilt last year.   Engine was properly broken in on a Dyno (pictured) and the break in oil is still in the engine.   I have a detailed “Build Book” of the engine and the entire process that comes with the car including Dyno sheets and the works.   This engine will outlast all of us.

This car also retains it's original #'s matching 727 floor shifted transmission freshly rebuilt by Mike McCoy who is one of the best in the business.   Mike is truly a professional in the Mopar world. owns Gears Transmission and has over 30 experience.   No expense was spared on this transmission build.   The car has the correct 489 Rear end with 3:55 sure grip gears all wrapped in it's factory original FJ6 Sassy Grass paint.   FJ6 was a late 1970 color and this car has it.   It's stunning.   Not many Dusters were painted this color and you certainly wont find another one in this condition.   Original FJ6 Car !!

Also in the car is it's original # 2998978 Radiator (1970 only 340 radiator) restored and re-cored by Glen Ray Radiator to concourse standards and wears it's original fan shroud. The car NEVER overheats.   The drive train on this car is as good as new.   I would drive this car cross-country right now.

So: We have a Real “H” Code Duster. Bucket Seats. Console Shifter. Sassy Grass Paint with a Black Interior and it's all original to the fender tag with ALL numbers matching. You may never find another one like this.   This is the real deal.

Additional Details For You:

PAINT AND BODY

The body is in excellent shape and the panels are very straight with excellent seems and panel fit.   Sheet metal is believed to be original the best that we can tell (I was told that there should be a “dent” in the quarter panels if there original so if these have been replaced then they look better than factory) Trunk floor. Floorboards. Rockers. Fenders. Hood. Doors and Frame Rails are super clean and appear original to me.  The paint in the entire door jams. trunk and inner fenders look fantastic. The undercarriage is some of the nicest I've ever seen and has been lightly (very lightly) undercoated. The underside of the trunk lid and hood are also in stunning condition.   The doors open and close excellent with ease just like they did in 1970 and the windows roll up and down perfectly and without any issue at all.

GLASS. CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks.  The front windshield is new and in excellent shape but all the rest of the glass is original to the car.   All windows and locks operate just as they should.   The front and rear bumpers are excellent. The window trim is very clean and as new.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with correct factory seat covers from Legendary Interiors. All seat padding and seat frames are “as new” condition. Carpet. door panels. trunk divider. speaker shelf. dash pad. wood-grain on complete dash. headliner. correct interior insulation. dash gauge bezels are all impeccable. The gauge cluster is super nice and looks factory new.   All gauges work and operate correctly.  A tachometer was added by me but the original “delete plate” comes with the car. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams. dome light. taillights. parking lights. turn signals. four-way flashers. back up lights and license plate light.   The AM radio also works.  The E-brake. defrosters. heater. fan. horn. speedometer and dimmer switch all work just as they should.

DRIVE TRAIN / SUSPENSION

The 340 has excellent power. runs very strong and sounds great.  As I stated earlier. the (original to this car) 340 was rebuilt last year by one of the best machine shops in the western states and comes with a “Build Book” that carefully documents the entire process from Am Pro cleaning the block to the entire build right back to OEM specs. Engine includes it's factory forged crank and rods and original to the car intake and original to the car exhaust manifolds most everything.   It still has it's original X heads (they usually get taken by now) freshly hand ported and rebuilt to exacting standards. Again. these items are all original to THIS car including the original LA only 340 Automatic 4bbl carburetor that was just freshly restored by Scott Smith at Harms Auto who is the best in the business. The radiator is “show quality” and original to this very car bearing the factory correct part number 2998978 restored by Glen Ray Radiator but also re-cored (4 rows) by Glen Ray with the correct and original to the car fan shroud so It cools excellent even on the hottest of summer days!  The transmission is #'s matching to the car with a fresh rebuild with no expense spared.   The rear end is an 8 3/4 with a 3. 55 sure grip center section in a 489 case which was an upgraded option on the 340 Duster back in 1970.  It was also blasted. painted and cleaned when restored and even has the original 3:55 call out tag.  Rear axels have been upgraded to “sealed bearings” but the original tapered bearings come with the car.   It has the original stock leaf springs. bushings and rear shocks are correct for the car.   The front suspension was completely done with all parts being blasted. painted and re-installed.  This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving.   This is a very tight and excellent smooth running 340 Duster that feels like factory new. does not wander down the road. does not rattle or squeak or have any bad manners.   This Duster sets itself apart from all others.   Please look at the photos closely to see the amount of detail work that was done. Watch the video with a critical eye and you will agree that this may very well be the “Nicest 340 Duster On Earth” today.

I purchased the car from Vanguard Motor Sports over 3 years ago for $31. 00 and it was worth every dime.   This car had a $60. 00 restoration done on it no doubt.   Since that time I have done the following to the car:

1.     Complete OEM Spec Engine Rebuild

2.     Complete OEM Spec Transmission Rebuild

3.     New 2 ½” Exhaust and tips Installed (TTI)

4.     Rebuild the original power steering unit

5.     Restored and re-cored the original OEM radiator

6.     Restored the correct carb to exacting OEM specifications

7.     Replaced all the hoses and wires with date correct ones

8.     Replaced all clips. brackets. nuts and bolts with correct ones

9.     Replaced the Crager Wheels with correct Rally Wheels and Replaced the tires with period correct BFG radials.

I will not give the car away so please don't ask.

The TTI exhaust is left over from a 421 Stroker that I put in the car for a few months while the original engine was being rebuilt and restored.   That engine is now powering a 340 Cuda.

This is a well known car can be seen in many places on the Internet from when it was purchased by me from Vanguard motor sports to when it had a stroker small block engine in the car to now.   YouTube searches would include:

Dave Mitton Duster. Ramblin Around 340 Duster. Vanguard Motor Sales 1970 Duster and many other places.
