Riley 9 Monaco 1933

Here is a 1933 Riley Nine Monaco (Special Series) which we have been the custodians for the last 10 years and only the second owners in 24 years.

This example is very original having never been restored or messed around with and has been used successfully on many trips both short & long over the years. The new owner would have a prime candidate for restoration or could use as it is. We did the improvements & maintainance as we rolled along in time.

This old girl has lots of original features such as :- Jaeger instumentation. very good original Chrome & Nickel. ROTAX everything including the Electrical Brass covers. Diamond Chassis Plate (Chassis No. 6021055). the original twin SU carburettors. nbsp; Bodywork and Window Reg. Plate. Brakework Patent Plate. 1933 Horn. Original Leather. Wood. Interior roof lining. Sliding Sunroof. starter handle and so on.

The Suck & Puff Wiper Unit & Air reservoir under the dash are still in place but not connected. In its place is an early electrical wiper motor for reliability. The only other deviations from standard are the indicators with simple post war Lucas dashboard switch and electrical SU fuel pump again for reliability. All common modifications of course.

Mechanically the car is very good overall with a quiet mellow engine (Engine No. 44476). nicely operating all-Helical gearbox. good brakes. good Differential and rear axle.

Lots of sympathetic work has been done on this car in our ownership which included amongst numerous smaller jobs. Replacement exhaust. replacement Diff internals including bearings. Under Dash wiring to correct specification (modern wire to prevent fire risk). Gearbox Oil seal. Repacement Stainless Brake cable throughout.

The negative points if you can call them this is that the front seat cushions are missing. given to an upholsterer as patterns but never returned (common story). the dynamo appears not to be charging at present.  This could be brushes but without removing the unit i do not know. Speedometer cable needs replacing & the Headlamps need twin filament bulbs with holders in order to have modern dipping units(the wiring is ready to connect). These are all relatively minor jobs.

We have some history of ownership going back to the 1950's together with other history to include an appearance in a 1984 episode of Miss Marple. Documention is old V5 and new V5C. The car is presently on SORN.

In summary we have a lovely Pre-War 9hp Riley 80 years old and still rolling with 99% of its original equipment. I wonder if we will be at that age?
