T. G. John and Co. Ltd was founded in 1919 and produced some
truly technically innovative motorcars during the inter-war period.
Its first products were stationary engines and carburettor bodies
although later became known for championing small-capacity. br/>high-performance engines.

'Well equipped. beautifully finished and of up-to-date design. br/>the price of £595 is moderate considering the quality of the
chassis and coachwork. was how Motor magazine summed up the new
16hp Alvis Silver Eagle saloon in April 1934.

Performance. appearance and finish are all well above the levels
found in the more conventional offerings and. with an air of quiet
and good breeding. the Alvis brand not only has much to offer its
owner in terms of performance but speaks volumes about its
owner's sense of taste and style.

This fascinating example was delivered to the UK but then
exported to the US shortly after the end of the Second World War.
Mr. Potter of Illinois kept it during that time before ownership
passed to Jim Wilson of Redondo Beach. California. During
this enthusiastic partnership. the car was comprehensively
overhauled and the original four seat open touring coachwork by
Alvis' Coventry neighbours. Cross & Ellis. although now badly
corroded. was re-modelled to its current 'Cross & Ellis'
inspired open touring specification with side-mounted spare
wheel. The works undertaken have clearly been carried out to
a very high specification as is evident upon inspection.

The interior has been completely re-trimmed in deep tan leather
with matching carpets to the floor. The chrome-work is excellent. a
new wiring loom and convertible top has also been fitted. all to
the highest standard. Importantly. the engine has also been rebuilt
with full white metal bearings and correct 'nip'. new pistons. br/>valves and head.

Back in the UK. this fine example has formed the corner-stone of
a Hampshire collection. known locally for the quality of the
motorcars kept within it. This delightful 1930's sporting
thoroughbred is offered with sundry restoration invoices. HM
Customs and Excise document 386. current MoT/tax and Swansea V5
registration document.
