The Evante was built by what was Vegantune from 1986 to 1991 at the Spalding factory where 106 cars were built. Vegantune had a major business prior to starting Evante cars rebuilding Lotus Elans. They started building the new car convinced that they could build a greatly improved Elan. the many improvements included a Spyder tubular chassis. their own VTA engine ( a much improved Lotus twin cam). the body was much stronger using much thicker fibreglass in important areas. CV joints instead of Donuts. Kevlar in the doors. an EXPLOSAFE fuel tank. fully adjustable suspension. electric headlight lifts and a host of other changes. All this resulted in a car substantially better than the Elan. it also cost a great deal more. (I bought my first one in 1989. it cost nearly £20. 00). Contemporary reviews (there are loads of mags on Ebay) were very complimentary. This one is the last built at the factory for a customer. a Dr Fellowes. before the rights were sold to Fleur De Lys. I bought it in 2006 wanting to get back to a small light . fun sports car. In 2007 it had a brand new Ford Zetec 2 litre black top fitted by Dave Dawson the Evante guru. the only guy to successfully race an Evante. at a cost of over £6. 00. The engine has an Emerald ECU and Jenvey throttle bodies along with a custom exhaust. it was mapped by Emerald themselves. with a brief for maximum torque. The car's done just about a 1. 00 miles since. which is the reason I'm selling it. I'm just not getting around to using it. This is a very powerful and quick car only weighing about 850 kilos. the modern engine is virtually new so it's a very reliable classic car.
