This beautiful looking car has recently been imported from Holland where it has been owned for the last 25 years by a Dutch Collector of British classic cars. The vehicle has undergone substantial historical restoration work and still presents impeccably today.

The Venetian Red Metallic paintwork is finished to a high standard. The carpets. woodwork. brightwork are all in first class condition whilst the plush Champagne hide interior looks new. Mechanically the engine maintains a good oil pressure and the ride is smooth and comfortable with a top quality feel to it. The car has also been fitted with an interior and bulkhead soundproofing kit. The Alvis has a particularly good body with superb door and panel fit. The underneath of the car is also excellent with one of the best preserved chassis we have seen. The engine bay is clean and all alloy and brass parts have been highly polished. The boot is fully carpeted and like the engine bay fitted with courtesy lighting. A quantity of valuable Alvis spare parts and consumables are included along with warning triangle. first aid kit and Alvis jack and tools. A matching chrome spoke wheel is located in a drop-down tray.

Full weather equipment comes with the car in the form of a lined canvas hood. 2 hoodbags (choose between cream leather one or more recent beige canvas one) and a comprehensive full tonneau cover which is a most unusual extra but very useful one for UK weather. The car is also fitted with auto-reel front seatbelts. Kenlowe electric cooling fan and badge bar with set of vintage badges.

Only 192 Drophead versions were ever produced and nice. RHD. matching numbers examples like this one are becoming increasingly hard to source. It is the perfect Show vehicle or weekend toy which cannot fail to impress. A blue-chip investment which is aggressively priced at under fifty grand!

Known History

Dating from 1960 this Series 2 TD21 left the factory on 15th December 1960 and was exported to a Textile firm in Hong Kong. There is a wealth of early correspondence between the factory and the first and subsequent owners.

 In 1967 the car was re-imported having at some stage been in the service of Middle Eastern Embassy and then owned by John Burton of Corbett in Worcestershire. In Mr Burton's custodianship the car received a British Registration number of JB 3945. his personalised plate. The car has now been reunited with this plate. thanks to the very helpful archivist at the Alvis Owners Club who researched this car and negotiated with the DVLA. Incidently it would cost about £8. 00 to buy this cherished number from a transfer agent today.

By 1983 the Alvis Club records show Lutz Burchard. a German living in Holland as the new owner. He sold it and returned to Germany in 1987. The new keeper was Pitt Donker of Wassenaar in Holland who kept the car for the next 25 years until 2012 when he decided to retire from his hobby due to advancing years. He states that during his ownership he only covered around 10. 00 local miles. He also used the car as wedding transport for many young friends of his family with him as the driver.

Historical Notes

Launched in October 1958. the Graber of Swizerland-styled Alvis TD21 was an immediate success. the combination of a luxury interior. elegant bodywork and 100mph performance proving immensely attractive to the well-heeled clientele at which it was aimed. The Motor described it as having “a Jeeves-like quality of responding to its master's whim” while Autocar praised it as “one of the most enchanting owner-driver cars imaginable. singling out the quality of the Park Ward coachwork with doors that “close with a majestic clunk – more like an air of finality than a noise. ”

Qualities that were no doubt appreciated by owners as august as the Dukes of Edinburgh and Windsor. Sir Douglas Bader and James Mason – all as quintessentially English as the car itself.

a torquey 120bhp straight-six engine mated to a four-speed manual gearbox or optional 3-speed automatic. the car was capable of effortless high speed cruising and handled exceptionally well for such a stately machine. The TD21 was introduced in 1959 with a total of 784 produced of which 192 were built with DHC coachwork. it was replaced by the TE21 in 1963.
