As 1 of only 4. 31 FRC's built in '99. this third addition to the C5 lineup was originally supposed to be the "budget" Corvette. It was slated to have cloth seats. roll-up windows and a smaller wheel and tire package. but the demand was so high for C5's the previous year. the cost saving measures were canceled. When all was said and done. the hardtop or Fixed Roof Coupe as it became known. was only $394. 00 cheaper than the coupe on base price! However. there were items that were not available such as dual power sports seats and electronic climate control. But. what you ended up with was a lighter and stiffer Corvette. And that meant a quicker and better handling Corvette! Production of the FRC only lasted two years; '99-'00. and not many were built. But. it's garnered a loyal following. This is the C5 in it's purest form and an absolute blast to drive . . . Fast! The FRC is the uncle of what would become the ZO6 the following year in '01.
