1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Convertible"Q" Code 351 Cobra JetC-6 Automatic. 3. 25 AxlePS. PB. Tilt. Console. AM/FM 8 Track
For you consideration is this beautiful 1972 Mercury Cougar XR-7 convertible with the desirable Q code 351 cobra jet engine option. This car runs and drives excellent. It appears the car was cosmetically restored at some point. The paint still shows very well but does have a few chips from driving and a few scuffs from car covers. There is no sign of any body rust. If there was rust repair it was done well. The interior presents very good with newer carpet. The seat covers and door panels appear to be original. The dash has a reproduction cover. The odometer reads 142. 00 miles which is believed to be accurate. It appears the driveline has been rebuilt but the exact history is unknown and there is no documentation to support it. The engine is smooth and strong. The engine is not numbers matching. The transmission shifts well. I noticed a slight whine in the rear axle with the top up. All the gauges appear to work. the heater works and so does the stereo. The car has 15x7 magnums with like new tires. The exhaust system is solid and sounds awesome.
This car was driven about 150 miles to my shop. The car drives straight with no pulling. Put the top down and you have an awesome cruising Cougar. Two small issues I noticed were the slight whine in the rear which can't be heard with the top down and the brake pedal is a bit firm possibly due to a failing booster. The top is in good shape but has two small holes on either side in one of the folds. The car is amazingly solid with no signs of rust or rust repair in the frame or floors. I pointed out in the video the tiny area of rust in the passenger trunk floor drop off. This car is an excellent example of a solid. driver quality Cougar convertible. This car is ready to drive and enjoy as it sits or with some TLC could be taken to the next level. Message me or call me directly with any questions.
