In my opinion she has everything an MGC GT should have. Classic Tartan red paintwork. Tax exempt. Sporty manual 4 speed gearbox with that all important overdrive and Webasto type roof and of course wire wheels.   She also has a rear heated screen which is usefull in winter. I bought this car 3 years ago as a non-runner. After a new steering rack. Radiator. brakes and other sundries. I quickly got it back on the road to a maintainable standard and have had 3 MOTs in my ownership. All the dials and switches work as they should on this car. no oil leaks or water leaks. all the electrics work. I have used this car daily and have travelled the country in it for 3 years without any issues. Thousands have been spent on this car in my ownership. that said. I have enjoyed the last 3 years and now looking for another challenge. The car has been garaged every night. It is joy to drive. own and still turns heads! With that said. it's not a concourse car. it has some areas for improvement in my opinion if the new owner is inclined. I have listed everything I can think of below.

I have a folder full of history with this car. with some previous MOTs / Tax discs / receipts and pictures of work done to the car previous to my ownership. Over its 45 year history it has had new sills in 2004. various panels and sundries keeping it going and with continued care. will be still around for many years to come. I'm sure.

Wheels/Tyres

All 5 wheels are 15” Wire Wheels. painted in a lovely grey/silver color. they are a Knock on type with spinners. these are excellent for getting on and off when greasing etc. The condition of the wheels is generally  good. with only minor paint flakes / scratches. The 4 wires are shod in firestone radial rubber and are in superb condition all with plenty of Tread and are of original dimensions 165x15 – they give the car a lovely original look. The Spare is present and is also a Wire wheel type. whilst it holds air well. the tyre looks like it could do with replacing as the tread seems well worn to me. The jack is not present.

Lights/Indicators

During the last 3 years I have replaced or renewed every piece of chrome/lenses and seal in the lighting system. All the lights and indicators work as they should. The original “High Beam” foot switch works very well and is in original condition.

Engine/Gearbox/Cooling System

The Engine and Gearbox all work as expected without any unusual clunks or knocks. The engine has always maintained excellent oil pressure and temperature with no oil or water leaks at all. The compression on each cylinder is more or less identical. The Overdrive goes in and out exceptionally well every time smoothly as it should in 3rd and 4th gear.   The gearbox and overdrive unit was inspected and refurbished by me 3 years ago when I first bought the car. I have ensured everything is always maintained to a high standard with regular oil/filter changes. The Engine pulls like a train. starts every time first time and has never let me down in 3 years. It sounds as it should. a lovely quiet / smooth burble on tick over and a throaty roar when accelerating. The exhaust system is believed to be a Maniflow system. single straight through large diameter stainless steel system with a single silencer at the rear.   In the last 3 years I have replaced or renewed whatever needed doing to ensure it always runs smoothly. In my ownership the engine has had a new Distributer. Plugs. Leads. Points. Coil. Oil Filler Cap. refurbished twin SUs. New fuel tank sender unit. New stainless steel heat shield. refurbished water pump. New belt. new radiator with original fan shroud and fan blade (these parts are not manufactured anymore so are often missing) original MGC radiator expansion bottle (not an MGB one like most Cs seem to have these days) and all new water pipes. The accelerator cable has been replaced as has the bonnet pull and choke cables to ensure they all work as they should.

The engine also benefits from being converted from a 2x6volt battery to a single 12volt Silver(550amp rated) battery. which is well protected and sits snugly inside a plastic battery box under the rear bench seat. These new Plastic battery box's are exxcellent in my opinion and keep the battery clean and dry to ensure a long life.

The Engine sounds truley Amazing! - Always puts a big smile on my face.

Brakes/Suspension/Steering

The Braking system has been overhauled in my ownership with new rear self-adjusting cylinders. new handbrake cable. new braided pipes front and rear. and new copper main pipes front and rear. The front calipers look original and work very well and I recently refurbished the original Girling master cylinder with a seal kit. The Brake servo is a lockhead type and works exceptionally well. The car stops in a straight line as it should smoothly without any juddering. locking or skidding. The MGC has had the benefit of an upgraded front anti roll bar and poly bushes which ensures a better ride. this sympathetic upgrade is recommended by many MGC enthusiasts. The rear bumper stops have been replaced with new rubber. The front and rear dampers are of original type and work as they should. The ride is very good. smooth as it should be. The Kingpins are in excellent condition. greased regularly. This car has also had a brand new steering rack and has the benefit of retaining the original steering wheel which is getting very rare indeed now.

Interior/Dashboard

This MGC has had the benefit of having every gauge or switch refurbished or replaced with new. This includes. New Ignition Switch. Light switch. Potentiometer switch. Interior light switch. Voltage stabilizer. Rear heated screen switch. overdrive switch. Fan switch. indicator stalk/mechanism and shroud. The Fuel. Oil/Water. Speedometer and Tachometer have all been refurbished and with new chrome. LEDs have been fitted instead of bulbs to give a better light on the dials. The rear view mirror is one of the earlier original types. with a rubber sucker on the screen. which looks great. The dashboard itself is completely original with no extra holes drilled in it anywhere. as many have these days - but is definitely showing its age! It could certainly benefit from a lick of black wrinkle paint. to make it perfect. The glove box works well. with key and the dash has had a new MG logo blanking plate which looks lovely. The gear knob has been refurbished so you can actually read the gear numbers. The seat belts have all been replaced with new. 2x front and 2x rear lap belts (my kids are still able to get in the back and regularly use them!) The rear bench seat and back have had new swabs and new black with red piping covering so look immaculate. The front seats are in excellent condition without any rips or tears. I don't believe them to be original as the condition seems too good to me. but is certainly possible. The floor front and rear has original rubber matting and rubber matting over the cills. it's in okay condition in general. but does have the odd crack/slit in places. particularly the drivers mat which has a small hole in the rubber. The tunnel carpet is original and needs a little TLC. I suspect the new owner may wish to replace this. but it's still perfectly useable as is. All the door cards. rear cards and floorwell cards have been replaced with new (black with red piping) and look great. The cream colored ceiling/head lining is rather poor with a few marks and the front head lining is missing as is the passengers sun visor(I can only assume the previous owners passenger didn't like them!!) The Webasto interior cream lining looks excellent condition. The interior chrome is all very good. with the exception of the rear boot stays. they could probably benefit from being refurbishhed as the chrome inst great. nbsp; They work fine though. The rear luggage carpet is okay. but is clearly starting to show its age in my opinion. it also has 2 speakers mounted in it from a previous owner.

Wipers

The Wiper system has been completely overhauled and works extremely well. No squeaks or rattles.  better than any classic car I have owned before. most likely due to the new wiper motor and gearboxes. cable. Stainless Steel Wiper arms. new seal fitting kit. Stainless Steel Wipers with fresh new rubber blades.

Exterior / Brightwork / Paint / body

The car is painted in its original Tartan Red – In Summary it needs a touch up here and there and could benefit from a little TLC in places. It still turns heads and looks great though! On closer inspection there are signs of paint bubbling and blisters appearing at the top of the rear nearside wing and along the seam has some bubbling. the nearside rear of the wing also has some bubbling at the bottom of the light cluster. The doors are both in excellent condition very solid indeed. the near side door does have a couple of bubbles appearing at the bottom about the size of 2x20pence pieces. this only looks minor though. The roof paint shows signs of wear also. it seems to have worn. mosty likely as a result of the Webasto type roof moving backwoods and forwards over it. or perhaps 45 years worth of polishing! The Webasto type roof is in good condition with no rips or tears. no leaks and works very well.  Both front wings are very solid and look like they have been replaced at some point prior to my ownership. The only blemish I can find is on the offside wing at the front below the side chrome strip about the size of a 50pence piece. All the chrome on this car is in excellent condition and I can only suspect that a lot of it has been replaced at some point. The front grill. whilst looks good. on closer inspection does have some bent grills but isn't really noticeable (I have to confess. this was all my doing. as a result of a pigeon flying into it last summer). The front bulkhead seams. look good. The front windscreen rubber is showing signs of age and there is some bubbling of paint on the near side corner between the window seal and body. The car has had new number plates. aluminum on black which gives a lovely original look. Underneath the car has been wax oiled/sealed. I can see the odd plate in places where repairs have been done. it looks like it has been done to good standard. Inside the engine bay there are some signs of rust on the wings. it looks like it has been treated and over the last 3 years it hasn't got any worse. The outer wings are very solid indeed. The inner wing bulkhead is very solid also. no signs of any rust. The middleThe floor pans look solid as does the boot floor with no visible rust.

Heating/Ventilation System

The heating and ventilation system has been completely renovated/overhauled during the last 3 years. including refurbished heater motor. Refurbished Heater Matrix. Freshly painted Heater box with Smiths stickers as per the original. New pipes. seals & switches & New Heater Valve. The MGC has the original foot well vents and hole in the bulkhead for fresh air.

Extras included with car – The car will come with a Full tank of fuel. a pair of new splash panels (never fitted). a pair of new radiator stay brackets (never fitted) a full SU Carburetor repair kit. (never needed). a brand new chrome on glass fuel inline fuel filter (never fitted).
