1970 Pontiac GTO

As most people know the Pontiac GTO is given the credit in 1964 for being the first muscle car.   Putting a big engine in a smaller car became the trend for all the Detroit manufacturers but it was Pontiac under the vision of John DeLorean that kept the GTO always ahead of the pack.  

There are many that consider the 1970 GTO the best looking of all GTO's.   By 1970 the GTO was not only a muscle car but also a grand touring car and America's representation to the European market that American cars could not only go fast but could also handle great.   In 1970 the suspension for the GTO was upgraded and the result was a useful reduction in body roll and lean.   The GTO was such a fast car that by 1970 the insurance companies put it under punitive insurance rates that caused a decline in GTO sales and makes a 1970 GTO even more rare.

In reference to the 1970 GTO in this eBay auction. MissChiTown would agree with most collectors that the best color for a 1970 GTO is a black exterior. black interior with a black soft top.   This car is running with the very quick 400 c. i. V8 350 hp. Turbo Hydromatic transmission.   As you can see in the photos. all the car cosmetics have been upgraded including the interior right down to the new carpeting.   The car has upgraded cluster gauges. electronic ignition and a upgraded radio with CD player.   It has also a heavy duty starter and new tach.   The current owner has replaced the front suspension and new shocks.

This car is equipped with the bucket seats. console and the sexy spoiler on the trunk.   The current owner enjoys driving this car to rallies and car shows and thinks nothing of driving 50-60 miles.   The private seller tells us that the car has no rust and is highly detailed.   The current owner he states that between himself and the previous owner. they have spent tens and tens of thousands of dollars to keep this car in its beautiful current condition.

This car is not a car that is being “flipped” by somebody to make a quick profit but has been owned by the current owner for approximately five years and the former owner had it for quite awhile also.   Note the tire cover on the spare is personalized but has been blocked out for privacy.

In summary. this car has a very low reserve and is about as attractive as any 1970 GTO can be.   Keep in mind that it is black on black on black with an original spoiler on the trunk. bucket seats. console. tack on the hood.   Equipped with the fast V8 400 c. i. 350 hp combined with Turbo Hydromatic transmission.   The upgrade of the cluster gauges and electronic ignition are definitely a plus.
