1973 Reliant Bond Bug three wheeler. Best in World -- NOT

I bought this car at the end of last year. The previous owner had. so he said. carried out a total nut and bolt restoration. I should have realised that the reason he had not had it MOT'd was because it would not have passed. Even though he said that all the bearings had been replaced it has failed its MOT on both rear wheel bearings. Not only this. but there is a small area of corrosion on the front suspension behind the wheel. which needs to be welded. The two electrical issues regarding the rear lights are simply down to a poor earth as they were OK before I set off! I do not have the time or enthusiasm to replace the rear wheel bearings and. in addition there are other issues.

I trusted the original seller. because he seemed genuine. but this turns out to be a big mistake. Some people can be trusted on ebay. others cannot. In addition to the wheel bearings the Zenith carburettor is seriously out of tune and I reckon I am getting around 18 mpg. Sometimes. especially going into reverse. there is a screeching from the clutch. I have no idea what this is. The gear lever is seriously wobbly and finding the right gear can be a problem.

Obviously. I could take legal action against the person who sold it to me but the expense and hassle is not worth it as the end result is not guaranteed. All I can say is. if it doesn't have an MOT there is obviously a reason for it. I was sucked in but I am not prepared to do that to anyone else so you know exactly what you are getting.

The bodywork was perfect but it collected a couple of marks. one on the spoiler and one on the side. when it was at the MOT garage. Unfortunately. to MOT a three wheeler it has to go into a very primitive contraption and this caught the side of the car. The spoiler was chipped when it was on the brake tester. so at least the brakes work.

Those of you who saw this on ebay before know that it got to £11. 00! More fool me! He must have laughed all the way to the bank. This time. no reserve but the auction will run to the end.

According to the previous seller the following is true! Well. it may be. Or it might not! We don't really know. do we?

Engine 850cc. New liners / pistons / rings / bearings / gaskets / crank polished / head skimmed.

Chassis / Drive Train.   Rot removed / blasted / painted / NEW bushes / seals / bearings (that's a joke!) brakes. (Yes. it does stop!).

Body.   Repaired / new gel coat / new decals (put on wrong!) / alloys / tyres.

Interior.   New trim / more decals  / new seat belts.

Also: Hockey sticks are stainless steel. thirsty carb is Zenith. headlights Lucas and it will be tax exempt next year.

Perhaps it would be better to cut it up for bits!

I have one new half shaft and a tin of paint.

I might have felt more inclined to fix it but my cherished Renault Caravelle is at the bodyshop and they have found more rust than I anticipated so selling this can go towards that!
