Here we have an original surviving Saab 96 V4 that I have driven off and on for the past 30 years. This was about the last 96 that our family Saab business. where I worked. sold new in 1973. About ten years later. the original owner needed a larger car and this 96 needed transmission work so we bought it back at 118. 80 miles. according to my note book. Then I rebuilt the transmission with a nearly new ring and pinion. refreshed the engine. rust proofed it. etc. In the next 30 years. I had 2 different professions and kept this car and 4 other V4 powered Saabs either on the road or stored in various buildings.
A couple of years ago I retired and with more free time. started mechanically rebuilding a few of these cars to put reliability back into them. What I have recently learned is that I cannot afford the taxes and various fees to have a dozen cars on the road. This is why some are being sold. This year the original engine was removed from this car. it was leaking oil and had some blow by. and I replaced it with a low mileage short block which was resealed. new front and rear oil seals installed. new fan shaft bearing. ebuilt alternator. new German water pump and fuel pump and topped off with a pair of heads with new valves. Also. every water hose was replaced with the highest quality hoses that I could find.

It also has a Pertronics ignition and steel core silicon ignition wires. A few years back a one barrel Weber was installed with a mechanical choke for its simplicity and gas mileage. The front muffler is new and the entire exhaust system is like new. The original transmission. which needed a ring and pinion was replaced with a younger transmission from another of my not used 96 cars. that I knew was in good condition. I took the front cover off to inspect the ring and pinion and it was not pitted and looked fine. Then I replaced the differential bearings with sealed ones for longer life. and the oil seals and reassembled it. A new. not rebuilt. slave cylinder was also installed. A new Sachs clutch assembly and release bearing was also installed. All of the wheel bearings were repacked and shoes. pads and brake hoses  replaced. If the cv boots were cracked or anything else was needed . it was done as all parts were in stock in my garage. The car also has Koni adjustable shocks. I also added brighter Halogen headlights.
About 6 years ago I had a good body shop repaint the car. $$$$  There were no dents or rust. just dull paint. Now it has a shiny DuPont  base coat clear coat that still gets compliments. It has a couple of flaws. but comes with nearly a quart of the original base coat yellow for repairs. Also included are the original stainless steel hubcaps in great condition too. The interior . seats. door panels and dash pad are all in excellent condition. even the original floor mats are in good condition! When I bought the car. the there was a 1 inch puncture in the back seat from something sharp. It has not changed.

I have to say that in today's retro age. this yellow 96 gets more attention than any car I have ever owned. Every time I drive it. it gets compliments!  It must be the color and or the 1940 Ford fastback shape. People of all ages think its cute!! When it was new. nobody noticed it.

I would gladly deliver it anywhere in the USA for travel expenses and a return plane ticket to Richmond. Va.   It would be an enjoyable trip with an old friend.
