Rare Color/Trim CombinationPristine Condition Inside and Out
This 1969 Mercury Marquis Convertible is 1 of 41 cars made in this rare Color/Trim combination. and it came loaded with options.   It is simply a beautiful example of style. luxury and performance. It was originally purchased in May 1969 at Monarch Lincoln-Mercury in Baltimore. MD.   It lived with the same owner until two years ago.    It was obviously meticulously cared for based on its pristine condition and originality.  I am the third owner.
The styling for this car was derived from what was going to be the 1966 Lincoln Continental.  While it shares Lincoln pedigree. it truly is in a class all its own.  When you first look at this car you immediately notice its bold grille. distinctive curves and refined lines.   Then you sit in the car and start it up. lower the power top with the touch of a button and lower the power windows. turn on the factory AM/FM stereo – and you suddenly feel like its 1969 all over again.

its original 429 cu in engine with 320hp and C-6 transmission. the engine/transmission combination is affectionately referred to as bulletproof. as their combination is particularly reliable and strong.   The body is straight and the original maroon color still shines nicely. The interior is absolutely immaculate.   The dash and sun visors look showroom new.   The seats are remarkably clean and are virtually free of any marks. scratches or wear - the cushions in both front and back seats are comfortable with no sagging or lower spots in any areas.   The side panels are likewise pristine.  The carpet is original and is also in very nice condition. The white convertible top is in excellent condition and the power motor effortlessly moves it up and down.   The four power windows all work properly.  The power antenna also functions properly as does the original AM/FM stereo.  The car came equipped with factory A/C that works but will need to be recharged.  The wood on the optional Deluxe Rim Blow steering wheel is also in very nice condition.  It should be noted that Factory A/C and AM/FM Stereo were very expensive options during this time.  However. it's clear the original owner purchased a fully loaded convertible in the color and trim they wanted - and they took very good care of it throughout its life.

It is a true joy to drive this car on the open road with the top down.  It is the kind of car that is parked out front by valets when dining at a nicer restaurant. and it's the car people want to know more about at the local ice cream shop.  What I also particularly enjoy is driving the car on cool October or March days with the top down and the heat blowing on low for an enjoyable. comfortable. "open-air" ride.

Mechanically: The front disc calipers. master cylinder and disc brakes were replaced within the past year.  The tires are a year old and have less than 200 miles on them.  The car received a complete tune-up within the past year. including a new fuel filter.  The car has its original carburetor. which was sent for a compete cleaning/refurbishment to factory settings a year ago.  No engine leaks or blue smoke.  The hidden headlights are vacuum operated and the vacuum system is very tight. keeping the headlight doors closed.  As you can see within the engine compartment. it's clean and retains many of its original factory markings and stickers.  Even the hood insulation is in very good condition.  It runs and drives very nicely. The power steering makes it a joy to drive and doesn't wander when traveling at highway speeds.
Body: This car was obviously very well cared for and garaged its entire life when not on the road.  There is not any rust on the body.  The paint is in very good condition and still retains its shine. There are a few minor knicks and scratches. but nothing that detracts from the overall beauty of the car.  You will not be disappointed.  The chrome on the entire car is in overall excellent condition.  What is particularly noteworthy is how well preserved the interior/hinge area of the doors are - making the oversize doors open and close with ease.  I've taken out the trunk liner and spare tire and jack to show the condition of the trunk area.  It's clean and original.  The car will come with its original jack. a bias ply spare tire and a spare spoke wheel cover.

I could not find a 1969 Mercury commercial that shows the Marquis Convertible. but I wanted to include a link to a 1970 Mercury commercial here:

During the time from 1:15-4:00 minutes. you can see what a car like this looked like and drove like when it was new. Mercury only produced the Marquis Convertible in 1969 and 1970 with only minor differences between the two cars on the exterior and interior.  A total of 2. 44 Marquis Convertibles were produced in 1969 with a similar number produced in 1970.  These cars are getting rarer to find. especially in this condition.

I purchased this car because it is a very well preserved original.  There are many classic cars out there but few fall into the category of pristine originals.  I personally visited this car and inspected it prior to my purchase.  It has not been available for sale on Ebay previously.  I also have the car listed locally and reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.  While it pains me to list this car for sale. I have a family sailing interest that will require me to relinquish the garage space.

Last couple of things: I was not sure if the car had seat belts in the rear but my 12 yr old found the rear seat belts still in their original plastic when I purchased the car.  The original owner's grandson said that the car was often driven with the top up. windows down and rear window in convertible top unzipped. lending to why the interior is in such good condition.  The original dark red convertible top cover matches the interior and is in very nice condition (on the underside it is dated 10/68 for October 1968). I also found an original build sheet within one of the hood insulation pads (will accompany car).  I will include an owner's manual and a complete five volume set of car shop manuals that are in excellent condition.  It just got a Virginia Safety Inspection good through 2014.  The car is a very nice driver and would be a favorite at the local car show.

I am happy to have the car inspected and/or can be available to show the car to serious buyers.  Buyer will be responsible for arranging shipping. I can be available to coordinate with shipper for pickup.  The car is located in Northern Virginia and I can pick up from any of the three DC area airports.  Please ask any questions prior to bidding.  I am also happy to discuss any particulars on the phone and/or send any other pictures upon request.  Email me and I will send you my phone number to discuss any questions.  The car is being sold as is/where is. If you have zero or negative feedback. please contact me prior to bidding or your bid will be canceled.  This auction is for serious bidders who plan to purchase this fine car.  Check my feedback and bid with confidence. Thank you and good luck!
