Without doubt. Carroll Shelby's thundering AC Ace-derived Cobra remains the single most important American performance icon of the 20th Century. The spearhead that successfully launched Ford Motor Company's fledgling “Total Performance” corporate racing program onto the international stage during the early 1960s. the Cobra marked a crucial step in Ford's eventual dominance over bitter archrival Ferrari.

Stateside. the Cobra quickly ruled SCCA competition. with Dave MacDonald and Ken Miles beating the Corvette contingent by taking a convincing 1-2 finish at Riverside in January 1963. Soon comprehensively redeveloped into ultimate “big-block” form with FE-block 427 power under the engineering direction of Ken Miles. the Cobra continued its winning ways through 1973. followed by countless wins in historic racing circles ever since. Even by today's jaded standards. the 427 Cobra's brutal performance continues to surpass most modern supercars. while its unforgettably visceral driving experience remains a sensory overload that simply cannot be duplicated.

Expensive and highly coveted when new. Shelby's big-block Cobras were never truly mass-produced. Just over 300. including 260 “street” cars. 23 full-competition cars. and 27 SC (semi-comp) Cobras were built in all. In all its forms. the 427 Cobra was a mighty racing car and virtually unbeatable on the road. but accidents and predictably hard driving claimed many of them. With demand far outstripping available supply. hard-core enthusiasts seeking the ultimate power trip fuelled demand for new Cobras. Thankfully. Shelby Automobiles answered the call beginning in 1995. beginning limited production of its 4000- and 6000-series Cobras. with all bearing Shelby “CSX” serial numbers and Carroll Shelby's signature on their Manufacturers Statement of Origin (MSO). Other high-quality companies manufactured Cobras as well. honoring the original design heritage.

Numbered CSX4390 and complete with a Shelby American VIN plate. this outstanding 1965 Shelby Cobra was sold new for $250. 00. Finishline Motorsports of Las Vegas built it. with power delivered by an awesome. fuel-injected 427 alloy V-8 built by Kroyer Racing Engines. also of Las Vegas. the famed off-road racing experts. Highly desirable features include a lightweight aluminum body. unlike the cast majority of fiberglass-bodied Cobras. d bumpers. front and rear jacking points. side pipes. wind wings. and a driver's roll bar. Pro-built. it is sure to deliver an incredible driving experience with truly brutal performance. channeling the legendary original with the benefit of today's refinements and new technologies.
