There are a few true Holy Grail 'Vettes out there. and this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette "Fuelie" goes right to the top of the list. This convertible is a first year Sting Ray with a numbers-matching. fuel-injected V8. And its exceptional condition that's been maintained for decades tells us that you're not the only one who can appreciate a rare Corvette like this.


Before we get into all of the hardware that will make you drool over this Chevrolet. take a moment to appreciate the bodywork that's ready for the car show the moment it leaves our facility. The factory-correct Ermine White has been professionally re-applied so that it shines in the sunlight like this Corvette's fiberglass was really made of porcelain. There's extra care to make sure the panel fit is excellent. That means when everyone's checking out your Fuelie. you can casually walk up. hop in. and take off. You'll look like a cool and carefree classic owner. but we really know you just have faith in the solid fit of the doors. These first year Sting Rays have some unique trim pieces that make any collector excited to see that all the chrome and stainless trim is present and pristine on this one. You even get the rare turbine-style knock-off wheels.


Open the door. and it feels like 1963 all over again. There's a sea of red on the carpets. vinyl bucket seats. and dash. Just about the only thing that breaks up this festival of scarlet is the brand new white folding roof. The rest of the interior keeps that factory-correct appearance from the heat/defrost controls to the clock is still ticking away. Sitting in the driver's seat is an experience with the grippy three-spoke steering wheel that is truly worthy of a vintage sports car. Beyond that is a full set of gauges. including the 6. 00 rpm redline tach an indication of something special under the hood.


The condition of the interior an exterior make this Sting Ray desirable. but what crowns it the king of every car show is in the engine bay. All '63 Corvettes had a 327 cubic-inch V8. but they were far from being equal. Few people were willing to pay for the pricy L84 Rochester fuel injection option. which makes this 360 hp Sting Ray a rare member of Corvette royalty. The irresistibility factor goes into overdrive when you realize it's the exact powerplant this convertible had when it left the St. Louis factory 53 years ago. These pictures are proof that the entire drivetrain has been maintained under careful ownership. so this makes for the perfect collector Corvette. Still. it would be a shame if this was just a trailer queen. With the independent rear suspension being new for 1963. and a great optional four-speed manual transmission. this is a classic car that begs for the backroads.


There were only 2. 10 fuel-injected cars built in 1963. which means collectors would pay top dollar for even a basket case Fuelie that survived this long.
