IT'S WITH A HEAVY HEART THAT THE TIME HAS COME TO OFFER FOR SALE MY FATHERS BELOVED CAPRI 3000 GT.   THIS CAR WAS BUILT IN 1972 AND FIRST REGISTERED ON THE 1ST JANUARY 1973. MY FATHER PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A FRIEND IN THE FAMOUS HOT SUMMER OF 1976 WHEN I WAS A SMALL BOY AND VERY EXCITED AT THE SIGHT OF THE LATEST MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY ARRIVING OUTSIDE THE HOUSE. THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN MAINTIANED TO A HIGH STANDARD AND HAS NEVER HAD SO MUCH AS A KNOCK. AFTER MANY HOLIDAYS DRIVING TO AND FROM SPAIN. CORNWALL AND LE MANS IN FRANCE IT WAS DECIDED IT WAS ABOUT TIME TO GIVE THE ENGINE A COMPLETE REBUILD. AFTER CHECKING THROUGH OLD MOTS AND PAPER WORK THIS WAS WHEN THE MILEAGE WAS AROUND 80. 00 MILES. THE CAR WAS THEN SENT OFF TO "SWAYMAR ENGINEERING" IN LEATHERHEAD WHO WERE ONE OF THE BEST ENGINE BUILDERS AND TUNERS AT THAT TIME. THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED AND COMPLETELY REBUILT USING ALL PERFERMANCE PARTS. HIGH LIFT CAMS. LIGHTED AND BALANCED FLY WHEEL. PERFORMANCE PISTONS. HARDENED SHELLS. COMPETITION CLUTCH ETC. ETC. THE ENGINE LOOKS STANDARD FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT IS FULL OF ALL THE EXPENSIVE MAGIC INSIDE. THIS WAS AT A COST OF £1900 AND IN 1988 THAT WAS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY. (RECEIPTS AVAILABLE). SINCE THE ENGINE REBUILD THE CAR HAS ONLY COVERED AROUND 30. 00 MILES. AGAIN THIS IS ALL PROVEN THROUGH PAPER WORK. IT WAS THEN TIME TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM WHICH WAS DULY DONE WITH PERFERMANCE MANIFOLDS AND A COMPLETE STAINLESS STEEL SYSTEM. A NEW TWIN CHOKE WEBBER CARBURETTER WAS INSTALLED ALONG WITH AN ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP. THE IGNITION SYSTEM HAS BEEN UPGRADED WITH ELECTRONIC FOR EASIER STARTING AND BETTER SPARK. A KENLOW FAN WAS INSTALLED TO COPE WITH MODERN DAY TRAFFIC ALONG WITH A NEW RADIATOR. VARIOUS OTHER PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED INCLUDING: BATTERY. PLUGS. OIL. OIL FILTER. AIR CLEANER. NEW FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS PLUS PADS AND HOSES. REAR SHOES ETC. ETC.
THE INTERIOR IS IN GREAT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. THE CAR HAS A FULL "WEBASTO" SUNROOF WITH POP UP WIND DEFLECTOR AND IS IN FIRST CLASS ORDER. ALL CLOCKS AND GAUGES WORK AS THEY SHOULD. A "MOTOLITA" STEERING WHEEL. THERE ARE ONE OR TO ANTI THEFT DEVICES FITTED WITHIN THE COCKPIT AREA. THE RADIO WORKS AS IT SHOULD ALONG WITH ITS ELECTRIC AERIAL. HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS. FOG LAMPS AND SPOT LAMPS HAVE ALL BEEN FITTED AS THEY WERE NOT STANDARD ON THIS AGE OF CAR. (ALL NON STANDARD PARTS CAN ALL BE REMOVED IF DESIRED)
THE BODYWORK IN MY OPINION IS IN GREAT CONDITION WITH NO RUST KNOCKS OR DENTS. THE PAINTWORK WHILST NICE AND SHINEY DOES HOWEVER. HAVE SOME PAINT BLEMISHES HERE AND THERE. THE VINAL ROOF IS IN FIRST CLASS ORDER WITH NO LIFTING OR TEARS. ALL BRIGHT WORK AGAIN IN FANTASTIC CONDITION. I BELIEVE THE FRONT BUMPER WAS RECHROMED IN THE 80'S AND AGAIN IS LIKE NEW. THE WHEELS ARE ALLOY "COMPREMOTIVE" ALL FIVE ARE UN MARKED WITH MATCHING "GOODYEAR EAGLE" TYRES WHICH ARE AGAIN LIKE NEW.
THE CAR HAS A LARGE COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY FILE OF BILLS. OLD MOTS. THE ORGINAL FINANCE AGREEMENT FOR THE CAR ALONG WITH THE FORD WALLET PLUS HAND BOOKS FROM WHEN THE CAR WAS NEW.
THERE ARE ONE OR TWO MINOR ISSUES: 1. MY FATHER HAD A MASCOT FITTED ON THE BONNET WHICH HAS NOW BEEN REMOVED SO THERE IS A SMALL GROMET IN THE HOLE. 2. DIFFERENT DOOR MIRRORS HAVE BEEN FITTED OVER THE YEARS AND THERE IS AGAIN A SMALL GROMET COVERING A HOLE ON THE NEARSIDE DOOR. 3. THE DASHBOARD HAS A SMALL REPAIR. 4.  THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR HAS HAD SOME WELDING MAINLY TO THE SPARE WHEEL WELL. THIS WAS CARRIED OUT TO A HIGH PROFESSIONAL STANDARD.
TO SUM UP: IF IT'S A 3000 CAPRI YOU REALLY WANT. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE  YOU TO COME AND LOOK AT THIS ONE. I'VE PERSONALLY KNOWN AND DRIVEN THIS CAR OVER THE PAST 40 YEARS AND IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO MATCH. PLEASE BARE IN MIND THIS CAR IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. IT GOES LIKE A ROCKET WHILST STILL IN KEEPING WITH ITS ORIGINALITY AND KILLER LOOKS.
THE CAR SAILED THROUGH ITS MOT THIS MORNING AND RAN LIKE A DREAM AS USUAL. I WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINING ANY SILLY OFFERS. WE ALL KNOW THE VALUE OF THIS MUCH APPRECIATING CLASSIC SPORTS CAR. WITH REGARDS TO MY FATHERS PERSONAL NUMBER PLATE. HE WOULD LIKE TO RETAIN IT. HOWEVER. THIS MAY BE NEGOTIABLE. THE ORIGINAL PLATE WILL BE TRANSFERRED.
