Technical specifications, photos and description:
Almost rust-free 1966 (titled as 1967) MG Midget ready for restoration. Partially disassembled (rolling with engine. trans. and dash installed). with a bunch of extra parts. A great start to build a nice restored Midget. Title says 1967 (probably sat on the lot. or someone mis-typed). but it's a mid-66 GAN3 model. with the earlier interior. dash and top ('67 models have safety switches. different steering wheel. molded plastic dash and a folding top instead of a removable one). The engine appears to be a 1275cc unit - as best I can read the block number it's 12CJ/DA/H 26341. which would be about 1970. Note that the VIN plate isn't attached to the body; it might be in the trunk.
The most rust-free Midget/Sprite (unrestored) I've seen in the Northeast; it was a California car (brought to PA in 1990). I bought it in 1996 already partially disassembled. and I never did anything with it. I believe it has never seen a northeast winter on the road (or very few). and has been garaged all the time (certainly since I bought it).
Rockers appear to be almost rust-free (see pictures of the bottom of the door openings). One floor (area under the driver's seat) was cut out and a plate carefully pop-riveted in place of it by the previous owner. but no holes for seat rails are drilled yet. Passenger floor is solid and mostly rust-free on the inside; some surface rust underneath. Includes a new full driver's-side floor including footwell floor ready to weld in. with only minor surface rust spots. Bonnet is in fairly good shape with only the standard line of rust at the very front edge. and a spot of surface rust. Two spots of surface rust on the boot lid.
No significant rust behind front wheels or in front of behind the rear wheels. The bottom of the panel in front of the driver's door was cut out and metal pop-riveted in place. but wasn't well-rustproofed and has some surface rust - I'd cut it out and weld in a proper replacement. I think there was some accident damage on the driver's side leading to the various fixes a previous owner did - this. the driver's floor. and the footwell wall. The driver's outside footwell wall is rippled though basically rust-free. That fender is off the car (see photos); it looks to have some minor bondo work.
I presume the engine will need rebuilding though it might well be fine.
Wire wheels. though there's some pothole damage to one rim. No broken wires that I can see. Tires have disintegrated. so it won't really roll well. though it could be winched onto a trailer - they're light
Dash is still installed with instruments and switches; wiring harness is installed. Water temp gauge sender looks to be intact. One seat is in very nice original condition; one was torn up by a racoon (grrr). but has a perfect frame. Both show no rust underneath where they attach to the seat rails. Master cylinder is out of the car. and appears to have been refurbished or rebuilt. and the shuttles have new seals on them. (A lot of the rubber around the car looks to have been new when I bought it. like the seal under the windshield).
Rear bumper looks perfect other than typical chrome pitting. Front bumper is good but is slightly bent near the center (see pictures); certainly can be straightened. Front grill is in very good but not perfect shape. Includes chrome body moldings and a center-of-bonnet chrome molding (note that currently the bonnet has no holes for mounting it). One or two chrome moldings are still on the car. Rear lights are in place with lenses; one hairline crack in left upper lens. License-plate light seems good (no glass. if it ever had any).
Extra radiator is in the trunk; water heater is disassembled. Both appear to be in reasonable shape.
Extra parts included: A set of extra gauges (except speedometer). along with some toggle switches. door hardware. an wiper gearbox. generator. starter motor. radiator. brand-new full carpet set (black. pictured). probably some more (I haven't inventoried every part). Brand-new motor mounts.
Carbs are out of the car and seem in good shape (probably should be rebuilt - it's easy). Heat shield is cracked (common problem). I don't think there is an air filter housing. Hood front bar is in the trunk and I think the hood supports (I'll verify).
I think some of the suspension has been rebuilt; there are a set of front upright swivel-pins which appear to have been removed from the car. in a box that held new pins. Shocks seem quite good (replaced?).
NOTE: I do not guarantee any specific part I haven't mentioned is there; however if you ask I'll check as best I can. This is for sale as-is. where-is. and you must retrieve it within 30 days of purchase. You'll need transport that can deal with a non-rolling or minimally-rolling car. or be ready to undo the wire wheels and replace them with ones with tires. I have never removed the wheels. and I don't know if there's a wire-wheel wrench/hammer in the trunk. or if they're stuck to the hubs.
Winning the auction is a sale; it's not an invitation to come inspect the car. If you want to inspect it in person or have someone do so. please contact me ASAP to arrange it. I can take additional photos as needed. Vehicle is in the Valley Forge area in Philadelphia suburbs.
