The above main components are all still the original ones supplied from new as proved on pages 126 – 127 of Bernard King's book on The Bentley R-Type. the original standard steel body was also green.

This R-Type Special is the last ever Bentley R-Type conversion completed that the famous Alan Padgett has been involved in.   He started converting standard steel saloons into specials in the early 1960's and built around 45 over the years and broke a number of speed and race records in them.   Alan completed all the chassis work including moving the engine. radiator and gearbox back in the chassis behind the front axle. he also completely rebuilt the 4566cc straight six engine including making a few race modifications  and started building a lightweight body. work sadly then ceased as he was taken ill and sadly passed away in 2015.

The present owners purchased this said part finished special in 2014 from Alan's son. Jeremy who at the same time sold Alan's last ever completed Bentley S1 Boat Tail Special to a friend of ours.  The present owners decided to complete this car on a similar theme to the S1.   Jeremy Padgett owns the famous Bentley Continental business specialising in modifications to R-Type and S1 Bentley Continentals.

This Special has been completed by a father and son team who own a number of Mk VI and R-Type Bentleys. it has been built to a very high standard with a long lightweight aluminium body and has been finished off with many handmade fittings including the Le Mans fillers. wheel spinners and tread plates.   The rebuilt unleaded engine starts instantly and is extremely quiet but it emits a lovely pre war sound through the long straight exhaust. it is now run in due to covering around 2. 50 miles. It has the standard high ratio back axle which aids cruising and is fitted with expensive Michelin Pilote X tyres which aid grip.

The whole motor car is in superb virtually as new condition. with just a few very minor marks on the paintwork and chrome trim.

We recently displayed and demonstrated this unique special to the market at the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club Annual Rally and Concours at Burghley House in Lincolnshire. it was displayed on our stand for 3 days and was driven there by road. the present owner is a member of the Bentley Drivers Club.   We attended the Bentley Drivers Club Silverstone Race Day in August in the Special and took part in the on track parade. it was also a lovely opportunity to photograph 4 Padgett specials together. two of which raced and one was a race winner.

Can be viewed at the owners house near Stamford and is kept alongside other Bentley Mk VI's and R-Types. it can be viewed by prior appointment in Lincolnshire.
