Road registered 1963

All pictures are of the actual unit being offered. nbsp;to be repainted to your chosen colour (single colour).

Ex Troop OT-64. There were according to records only two OT-64 non turreted troop versions manufactured. Priority of space utilised for carrying passengers. Therefore. this is ideal for carrying passengers. With the Tatra air cooled V8. also reliable.  This one has just been MOT'd and being 1963 is free historic tax.

This unit has been through a comprehensive maintenance schedule. involving replacement of all hub lip seals inner and outer. including new ball joint boots fitted and full greased.

Driving an OT-64 is. how should a say. a unique experienced. Gears are pre-select. so you change into your next gear before depressing clutch. This ones be updated with modern LED rear lights. and side mirrors. compliant for the U. K. Roads.  The V8 11. 5 litre air cooled engine is a brute with bags of power. and a real eye turner. The running gear is basically a Tatra 813 and uses a centre spine driveshaft system. which is unique to Tatra. And. just in case you are wondering who Tatra is. they are the first manufacturer of commercial vehicles and are your Rolls Royce of design. There is no messing around. grabbing levers to engage difflocks. you simple turn a one of the air controlled switches to engage 1. 2. 3 or 4 axle. and front rear diff lock. As the MOT inspector said "This is one serious piece of ******* don't mess with me kit" (he was ex-military and very impressed).

Don't get caught out with the price rise if you are thinking of waiting. this one was imported in before GBP Sterling lost 10%.  Also. with Brexit.  Once the U. K. has left the E. U.  Importation will be more complex and difficult. as the E. U. German military transit permit will no longer apply.

These vehicles weigh over 7. 5 tonnes. and therefore you will need to have a rigid vehicle tests. You can do a block week course for this. costing around £1. 00.

HISTORY

The OT-64 was intended to replace the halftrack OT-810. which was nearly identical to the German SdKfz 251 from World War II. The first prototype was built in 1959. In 1961 the first series were built and went into service in October 1963. The vehicles were produced in Lublin. Poland by Fabryka Samochodw Ciężarowych. Czechoslovakia supplied the driveline components. i. e. the engine. transmission and axles. Principally the OT-64 uses many Tatra 813 components. The first production vehicles were delivered in 1964 to both the Polish Army and Czechoslovak Army. They were also acquired by the Hungarian army. Rather than employ the Soviet BTR-60P series of 8x8 APCs. Czechoslovakia and Poland decided to develop their own vehicle. The thinking was keep Czech and Polish manufacturers busy. The OT-64 (Obrneny Transporter) 8x8 uses many of the automotive parts of the Tatra 813 heavy truck series and entered service in 1964. The Czechoslovak company Tatra produced the chassis and automotive parts while the Polish firm FSC of Lubin produced the armoured body. The Polish designation for the vehicle was Sredni Kolowy Opancerzny Transporter (SKOT). OT-64 being the Czech designation. OT-64 SKOT entered service with Polish and Czechoslovak armies in 1963. It was produced until the early 1970s. During the 90s. Slovakia purchased hundreds of these units from the Czech Republic (150 in 1994. 100 in 1998). Slovaks then sold them to other. mainly African. countries. OT-64 SKOT was also exported to eleven different countries. A total number of 4. 00 were manufactured. The OT-64's engine. transmission. suspension and axles were produced in Czechoslovakia. The engine was produced by Tatra. The gearbox was manufactured by Praga Hostivař. It has a pre-select Praga-Wilson gearbox. (5 forward +1 reverse gears. ) A gear is selected using the gear stick then when the gear is required the left pedal (gear change action/clutch combined) is pressed to the floor. giving a hiss of air sound. on release of the pedal the dry plate clutch engages after about half the return spring controlled movement. The drive then passes to an auxiliary gearbox with low. neutral and high ratios which needs to be selected before moving off. for road/neutral/off road use. this gives option to the driver of 10 forward and 2 reverse ratios. The gear change pedal is hydraulic and on action opens an air valve which causes the selected gear to engage. The OT-64 was the answer to the Soviet BTR-60. Contrary to this the OT-64 used a diesel V8 engine in place of a petrol engine. That diminished the danger of fire and at the same time increased the range. The main advantage in relation to the Russian counterpart was the full-armored interior. The entrance is at the rear of the vehicle via twin doors. The OT-64 had an NBC protection facility and night-vision equipment. It also has central inflation for all wheels which can be controlled by driver during a drive. The OT-64 was air-transportable and amphibious. for the transport on water used two propellers installed at the back.

from Jimmyn Lee, dated 20 february 2023
Hello,

My name is Jimmyn Lee and I work for Poland-US Operations (PLUS Ops), a defense contractor in Poland. We were requested by Swedish volunteers serving with the Hospitallers Medical Battalion in Ukraine to acquire an OT64 that they intend to use as a CASEVAC vehicle. I would like to know if your vehicle is still available and if you think it is in fit enough condition to meet their needs. I look forward to hearing back from you, and discussing pricing/logistics.
