1993 Volkswagen Corrado VR6 - 5 day auction with no reserve for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.1) based on 408 votes

A lovely example of the Volkswagen Corrado VR6 in Pearl Green. a car described by many as a future classic and one of the best front-wheel drive cars of the 1990s and a very rare sight in Northern Ireland. It started its life in Sussex. then moved to Wales. then over to Belfast.

Good points

Excellent condition overall – the most important consideration in a car this age. Arches. sills and underside are as solid as a rock

Only 102. 00 miles

MOT until 24 July 2017 (Northern Irish - much stricter than mainland UK)

Standard apart from:

Upgraded headlight loom and Osram Nightbreaker bulbs

a Sony head unit and

tasteful stainless exhaust

Excellent tyres – Continental Premium Contact on the rear and Firestones on the front. with tons of tread left.

Original touches like dealership sticker in rear window intact. first aid kit present and unused

Original cloth interior - actually quite rare these days as people tend to swap them for leather. and uncut parcel shelf.

Partial service history (complete from my ownership) and folder of receipts and old MOTs

Just had a service

Rocker cover gasket just changed

Although I can't prove it. the timing chain and tensioner appear to have been changed.

Eligible for classic insurance

New master and slave cylinder for the hydraulic clutch fitted at the same time – a common problem fixed

Rear washer motor replaced

Lower radiator cross member/ support often rots on Corrados. Fitted freshly-refurbished one this year ahead of MOT.

Not-so-good points

The engine uses a bit of oil. but not to overly worrying levels.  I've been putting a litre in every two months or so. but as mentioned above I've just had the rocker cover gasket replaced which I was led to believe was at least partly responsible.

Sunroof sits correctly. tilts and does not leak.  but does not slide - common fault

Occasionally cuts out at low revs - a common Corrado problem. possibly the idle stablisation valve needing cleaned.

Different key for driver's lock

MFA's oil temperature and MPG functions are blank.

Work carried out by previous owner

Head taken off

Valve stem seals replaced

New wiring loom – OBD2 to OBD1

Cam followers/tappets replaced (new from Volkswagen. all 12)

The coil pack was replaced

Compression tested – all good in six cylinders

head skimmed. pressure tested

valves re-seated

inlet and and exhaust gaskets

water pump. thermo/water housing

radiator fans

He also may have replaced the camshaft oil seals – he can't remember for sure

I've been very pernickety with the negative points. Overall this is an excellent example of this modern classic. and needs to go to someone who will put in the effort to make it perfect.

This car's value will go and up and up if it's properly maintained. with some examples being listed for ludicrous money.

Cash on collection only.
