VERY RARE 1968 PEUGEOT 204 DIESEL ESTATE LHD VERY LOW MILEAGE GOOD CONDITION

Up for sale is my lovely old Peugeot 204. This is a very rare example and probably the only one currently in the UK. it is a very early version of the 204 diesel using the 1. 2 diesel engine. They only made them for a few years with this engine as it was rather underpowered so they upped it to the 1. 3. It is also the slim stainless steel bumper version and has the metal grille so looks far better than the later ones to me.
I imported this car last year as a project. It appears to of had only 2 owners in France before me. the previous owner had it from a couple of years old up until his death a few years ago. I am fairly certain that the mileage is correct due to the condition it is in. The car was taken off the road in 1994 and had been left in a garage with a full tank of diesel. I managed to get it running really easily but the injector pump kept sticking so the pump has been overhauled and a new filter head etc fitted.  
I recomissioned it last year with new rear brakes and repair kits in the front. It also had 4 new tyres and a new dynamo regulator. It didn't need much work just 4 small patches of welding under the removable sill covers. It also had new cover sills but other than that the bodywork is totally original. It could really do with a paintjob as it has been resprayed before many years ago and that is now showing it's age.
Mechanically it is near perfect the engine fires up easily and with very little smoke for an early diesel engine and is cleaner than most modern diesels when it is warm. The 4 speed column change gearbox changes really smoothly and the clutch has had a new slave cylinder as well.
All the electrics work as they should and the headlights have been swapped to the right hand drive setting. I also have a spare brand new set of headlights.
The car has just had an mot which it passed but could really do with a new exhaust as it is also original and blowing slightly.
I am only advertising it as I am looking for a new challenge something French and older really. The car is ready to go and I would drive it anywhere but bear in mind it is not a fast car and seems happy at around 55. I have priced it at what I think it is worth but would consider sensible offers.

The car also comes with a complete spare engine and gearbox. I will also include the special tools for replacing the clutch and a spare rear wing. Parts are fairly easy to obtain and I have been quoted £300 for a stainless steel exhaust or there is a mild steel one available in the UK
