1977 SOUTH AFRICAN MK2 1300 HARRIER REPLICA.

Hello. sadly i need to sell my harrier replica to fund the restoration of my SA 1600 sport zetec.

This car was recently imported to the UK from SOUTH AFRICA. It lived in  PINE TOWN. DURBAN.  

First registered in 30-07-1977 and sold new at EIKENS ford as a 1300 711m POPULAR PLUS in very rare ALPINE WHITE with a beige vinyl interior.

I purchased the car with the intention of using it during the summer while i restored my other escort but i now need to free up funds for the on going work.

The escorts paint was in very good order when it arrived but due to numerous parking dents and scratches a respray was deemed necessary. all interior and exterior trim was removed before all panels ( except roof and lower engine bay ) were prepared for primer and paint.   the front floors were heavily dented from use so have been repaired. the inner lower quarters required a small amount of welding.

using a paint spectrophotometer we had the paint correctly matched from the pristine roof so it could be painted the original shade of alpine white ( a ford colour in south africa )

Once painted. cleared. flatted and polished a line of stone chip was applied to the lower areas.

Harrier stripes were fitted and all chrome trim was keyed. primed and sprayed satin black. This includes bumpers. door handles. mirror. ford lettering and various brackets.  

The grille back panel. rear light deck panel. window surrounds and gutters have been masked. primed and sprayed satin black ( not pristine. see photos ) 

a set of 4 spoke ford rims have been painted in a slightly darker gun metal silver and fitted with x4 brand new tyres. ( some have curb marks ) a MK2 mexico spoiler has been fitted on the rear. a front spoiler has not been added.  

The engine has had some time and money spent on it. benefitting from a new top end strip and build. including new Head-gasket. inlet gasket. exhaust gaskets. water pump gasket and carburettor gasket.  

Using all original running gear including the original Heavy duty RS borg-warner axle  and at standard ride hight the car is as it left the factory. a standard exhaust system has been fitted with NOS rear silencer.  

New parts fitted include Track rod ends. TCA'S X2. Rack gaiters engine oil and filter and steering rack poly bushes.  

the interior still retains all of its original 1977 distinct features. standard seat belts ( none ratchet ) opening front quarter windows and UK SPEC fuel tank which was fitted in the early production years in south africa. a brand new carpet has been fitted. front and rear door cards and seats have been vinyl dyed black to complement the carpet.  

the speedo is still in KMH but a mexico MPH speedo will be supplied with the car if you wanted to change it.

Im selling the car with a full UK MOT of 12 months expiring on july the 2nd 2013.

it will require registering with the DVLA which will cost £65. 00 plus the first 6-12 months road tax and requires you having insurance ( which i don't have hence why i did not register it )

i have all the registration paper work filled outand all the hard work has been done.

what does the car need?

not a huge amount. tracking needs setting ( if i get 5 minuets i will set it up by eye ) the choke is fitted but has been wired open by a helpful south african  so does take a few pumps to get her going first thing. the drivers side interior weather strip is loose so either wants replacing or glueing and the gear stick needs a new quick shift fitting ( just feels loose).   had a few minor advisories on the MOT but nothing major.

Please note - the auction will run its  full course.   the car is 36 YEARS OLD so it drives like any other old escort! has squeaks and rattles and is only a 1300! don't turn up and expect 20k restoration! the paint has the odd imperfection here and there but as you can see looks stunning!

Forgot to mention the car has been treated to VERIDOT IDENTIFICATION. basically it now has a DNA code and can be identified using its own unique code ( safety and insurance feature ) the chrome insert around the squeen want replacing ( about £30. 00 for front and rear. )

Had a few more questions. yes this is a all original panels car! wings have original factory welds. the wheel arches have never been replaced. the rear door cards have been removed to photograph.
