The time has come to put my early bay up for sale due to needing funds for a new project.
This is a rock solid bus and I would welcome any viewing so you can see just how good it is underneath. If I can get it on some ramps in the near future I will do so and take some photos but please arrange to come and have a look. The only welding it has had done is the battery tray. It is a really solid bus having lived in a hot. dry climate for 43 years
Originally imported from one of the dry southern US states by FBI VW in July 2013. it was Waxoyled and Ankor Waxed where needed. It lived undercover in Cornwall for a year and I then took on the ownership in June 2014. It has always been kept in a heated garage except when I've taken it to shows.
I've used it regularly and it has been to many shows that I have traded at. Last year it took me to the Freddy Files in Ninove with no problems other than a bad starter motor that has since been replaced.
Here are the details:
1970 early bay walk through in Savannah BeigeExceptionally rust free exampleMoT until August 2017Originally a deluxe microbus it has the chrome belt line trim. window chrome. jail bars and those cool pop outs in the side windows. All original except for the windscreen chrome that was replacedStock 1600 twin port engine that has been very reliable (for those that know this bus. it did have a 1641 that let me down. hence the standard 1600 now)Pertronix electronic ignition on 009 distributor with Pertronix Flamethrower coilBugpack quiet pack exhaustFull set of Mad Matz sisal carpetsEMPI shifterLowered on beam adjusters and rotated one or two splines on the back (not by me so don't know how much)The very comfy sofa in the back can be removed easily and I have the main bits of a rock and roll bed that are included in the sale. I liked it with the sofa when I was at shows with a roof tent - bedroom upstairs. living room downstairs :)BRM replica alloys all roundLeisure batteryBlazecut fire extinguisher systemRemote fuel cut off switchFront seats are in great condition having been re-trimmed prior to my ownership
The front panel has had the paint removed because there was a lot of filler following some kind of minor damage years ago. The filler was cracked and I didn't want it to rust behind so I removed the filler. It can be painted or left as is with a bit of Ankor Wax protecting it. The rest of the bus is OG paint with no filler anywhere that I am aware of.
According to the previous owner in Cornwall. this bus was used by skate brand World Industries as a mobile demo vehicle at some point in its life. When it came in via FBI there was a large World Industries sticker over the long panel and there is evidence at the back where a ramp was bolted up behind the air intake vents. Pretty cool bit of history but I have no provenance. only this anecdotal evidence.
I need to raise funds to build a Trekker that I have so this bus is regrettably up for sale. I'm open to sensible offers but I won't let it go for peanuts; it's a great bus and I would keep it if I could afford to. This is a very solid rust free US bus but PLEASE bear in mind that its 46 years old. Please give me a call (Ollie) on 07737 047 029 to arrange a viewing. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The bus is located near Chelmsford in Essex and I can do pretty much any day or time with some notice. I will need to take some of the trinkets out as they have sentimental value.
