1968 Camaro RS that has undergone a complete frame off restoration on a rust free car. Numerous upgrades were made to the car to bring it to a level that it drives as tight as a modern day vehicle. There was no expense spared to make this into one of the nicest Cameros in the country. This is my brothers car. and he looked at Camaros all over the US in his quest to find the best car available. his quest ended with this car.
THE BODY
The car is rust free. and as you can see. each panel has been painstakingly worked to assure it is laser straight and without flaws. The paint on the car is near mirror perfection. Look at the pictures closely. it will give you an idea of the quality workmanship that went into this incredible restoration. It was somewhat difficult to photograph well in broad day light due to the reflective nature and gloss of the paintwork. Please note. the drivers mirror which was missing during the photo shoot. has been replaced.
The framework and suspension items were all powder coated during the restoration and still look new. Hotchkiss suspension was added to the car. along with Willwood 4 wheel disc brakes. The car literally will stop on a dime and compares to some of the high end German cars on stopping abilities. The suspension system was upgraded as well. and the car is as tight to drive as any modern vehicle and handles like a dream. There is none of the 60-70s GM sloppy feeling with this car. The wheels the car rides on are Boyd Coddington custom wheels that were powder coated to match the color of the car. they are 17s up front and 18s on the rear . The grill is billet aluminum and the headlight doors have been converted to an electrical system. no more worries about the dreaded GM vacuum problems.
THE INTERIOR The interior of the car was done to maintain a traditional look to it. but with numerous upgrades added. The upholstery is the traditional hounds tooth fabric. but the vinyl was upgraded to high grade leather for a more comfortable ride and to keep with the level of restoration done on the rest of the car. Tilt steering was added. and AC added. Last time I drove the car it was 96 degrees in Dallas. and the AC did the job well and blows cold. Full gauges have been added. there is a switch on the dash that looks factory. but is actually what operates the electrical cut outs off the header system. We opened the exhaust up while leaving a stop light. it sounds very cool. Inside the car. you don't hear squeak's. or rattles or excessive wind noise as everything fits together so well.
THE ENGINE
The Camaro is powered by the Chevrolet 383/ 425 HP Stroker engine. Exhaust is thru Holly Custom Headers with electrical cut outs. and flowmaster exhaust. MSD ignition fires the engine and it starts on first turn of the key. The engine is kept cool with a Be Cool Radiator system and dual fans which keeps the engine running cool . even if outside temps near 100. When we took the pictures. it was 96 degrees that afternoon. the engine idled smoothly while we moved it around for shots. at no time did the temperature gauge ever come off the mid range of 190 degrees. a testament to how well the engine and cooling system work together. The transmission had been built well to handle the power of this engine. and shifts perfect. even under load. I am unsure of gear ratio on the rear. but assume it to be mid to upper 3 range. I do know that in first and second gear you can roast the tires. yet at highway speeds your in the mid 3K rpm range. The entire drivetrain has been so well designed that the car. while powerful is also a joy to drive and make the transition from an easy street cruiser to pure out and out muscle car by simply pressing the gas pedal. Miles on the car after full restoration is approx 2500.
This Camaro quite simply is fun to drive. fantastic looking. and can easily be the star of any show you roll into with it.
