Wow! One of my all time 70s favourites - the Hillman Avenger. Avengers are like hens' teeth now and. if you are an Avenger fan as I am. you will realise just how seldom they crop up for sale. And. also on the odd occasion that they do. they are hardly ever this old or in this kind of amazing condition. There has been an Avenger Tiger copy with lots of modifications for sale recently (it still is when I last looked) and it was registered on March 10. 1970. Its owner proudly proclaims that his is the 3rd oldest Avenger in the world! Well. this gorgeous old girl was registered on March 23. 1970. Bearing in mind the scarcity of the marque in the first place. I would suggest that mine is more than likely the 4th oldest Avenger in existence.

The Avenger was unveiled to the public in February 1970. Mine was on the road within the very first month of production. This is a real Avenger. It has not been tampered with in any way and is an original 1250 Super. Just look at those "hockey stick" rear lights! I think that's what first drew me to Avengers when they were launched. I was 14 and I thought the coke bottle. slightly Trans-Atlantic look was superb! Now. 46 years later. I still love them.

This beauty has never been restored. She has been painted at some stage. doubtless to freshen her up. but not restored. Blue with an early Avenger cream interior. she looks great. sits well and drives beautifully. To the best of my knowledge. she has a Rootes Group Hillman Avenger Gold Seal engine and she pulls brilliantly. In fact the car drives tightly. is extremely responsive and handles ever so well.

She is incredibly straight and so attractive. Door bottoms are un-marked and you can feel the smooth undersides of them when you like on the ground and run your hand along them. Front wings are great as are bonnet and boot. Her engine bay is in original factory blue and is in amazing un-touched condition. There has been no work whatsoever around the strut tops! Apart from a few minor paint scabs (which most people would not even mention at all). she is quite delightful. She does - almost inevitably - have the typical Avenger crack in the plastic dashboard top. I am sure that. these days. that will be a simple fix for a car trimmer.

It is so rare to see any Avenger on an H plate. The H plate was issued from August 1969 and so my March 1970-registered Avenger was given the said suffix. Mostly. you will see Avengers on K. L or M plates.

All in all. a superb example of an exceptionally rare 1970 Avenger. Her underside is also in great order and. from what I can tell. she has not been welded. The boot floor and spare wheel well are also untouched.

Well that's about it. I accept all major debit/credit cards and a ten per cent deposit is required at the point of sale with the balance due within three days. I can also assist with delivery and so please ask for a quote. Martin (07595-020282).
