1970 MGB-GT Owned since 10/2014. 39. 00 miles when purchased Current mileage approx. 44. 42 This is my split bumper 1970 b-gt that I've owned for two years. I've decided to put it on the market and sell if it can find a good home for a fair price. The car gets lots of looks and presents really well overall. but it is not a mint example. It's one of the best classics I've ever owned (overall) and it hasn't let me down but once when the fuel pump went south. The yellow paint job looks good from certain angles. but it is fairly evident that it was not a top quality job. You can see that the paint was laid on thin in certain spots when you see the car (more evident from a distance). The car was originally Pale Primrose. With that being said. the car is a very honest example that I have enjoyed for several years. I drove it daily when purchased as I had a 5 mile one-way commute to work (Miami Springs to Coral Gables. FL). I now work in Fort Lauderdale which at best is a 26 mile one-way commute on I-95 and the Turnpike. and now also work about 70 hours per week. I love this car. and have shown it a tremendous amount of attention since buying - but I am now in a position where I can't enjoy it. These reasons are: Long commute in punishing South Florida Summers with no AC. no overdrive (I drive all highway now). and it's a stick (I now routinely sit in traffic jams). and it's downright scary traversing my normal route in such a small car. I still find the time to maintain and drive it. but the car is completely impractical to drive back and forth to work. and my one day off does not give me time to enjoy it (and I fear it will deteriorate without being driven regularly). My intention is to sell the car and buy an XJ-6 (series 1 -3) with AC and auto trans so I can drive my classic a few times a week - or trade the B towards one. Most all mechanical issues have been repaired or subject to required maintenance and adjustment. My goal was to resolve / maintain mechanicals then head for a repaint in the original color. which was coming soon. but plans have changed. When purchased. the car had the yellow paint job. overhauled front brake calipers. urethane front suspension bushings. stiffer front springs. overhauled front Armstrong lever arm shocks. heat / noise insulation installed throughout interior under the carpet. Weber 45DCOE carb n a Cannon manifold. and otherwise stock appearing interior. The bumper over riders are not present. nor was the belt line trim and side marker lamps (more on that later). The fuel tank was replaced a few months before I bought the car according to PO and I can confirm it was almost new when I bought the car. single battery conversion performed and a battery cut off switch installed which is directly behind the driver seat. still has cast iron water pump. had an AC compressor installed which I have since removed and given to someone who needed it (lines and evap case had never been plumbed in so no holes in firewall etc). Since purchase. I have added or maintained the following: 1. 4 Valvoline VR-1 20W50 oil changes with Purolator Gold filters until the most recent (had to use AC Delco as I couldn't find the Purolator). 2. Gearbox oil changed out with Castrol GTX 20W50 3. Diff oil changed out with correct soft metal friendly gear oil 4. Rear diff pinion seal replaced before above was done - no leaks at diff 5. Pertronix flame thrower complete distributor installed (original had shaft wear - intent was to send out to advanced dist for overhaul). 6. New starter (original comes with car if you wish to have it repaired for originality) 7. GM SI10 alternator (original comes with car if you wish to have it repaired) 8. Heat shield and anti-vibration mounts added to 45 DCOE carb. 9. Tourist Trophy stainless steel header-back exhaust 10. PL Tripod headlamps and new trim rings 11. Moss headlamp relay kit 12. Aux fan with interior switch control (only ever needed in super hot S Fla days when stuck in traffic. hardly get's used). 13. New headlamp switch 14. New heater fan switch 15. Heater box restored 16. New throttle cable (proactive replacement - was fine) 17. Valves adjusted 18. Carb adjusted and air cleaner maintained 19. Silicone valve cover gasket installed (re-usable) 20. V8 front brake pads installed 21. Urethane subframe mounts installed 22. New clutch slave cylinder and hose. 23. Smiths Voltmeter installed 24. Speedo cable replaced (it broke. put about 2 miles on after it quit) 25. LED gauge and interior bulbs from Moss (except for voltmeter) 26. New dome lamp installed 27. Door contact switches cleaned up - they work the interior lamp now. 28. Wiring to alternator re-done as it charred a bit when the first one shorted - new wiring has been in service for almost 2 years with no issues - I am ASE certified and did the re-wire properly). 29. Engine mounts replaced 30. Trans mounts and locating pin with bushings replaced 31. Moss silicone rad hose kit installed and cooling system flushed 32. Oil cooler and hoses replaced with Moss rubber hoses (a leak developed) 33. Spin-on oil filter adaptor installed. 34. New thermostat (done as maintenance when hoses were done) 35. New heater core supply pipe (old one was ugly) 36. Door latches disassembled. cleaned. lubed 37. Window lift handles replaced and Window lift guides cleaned and lubed 38. 4 cooper CS3 tires installed 11/2015 - spare is old and rotten but on a Rostyle wheel which is not painted to match the other 4 (they are grey). 39. Fuel pump replaced with a MR. Gasket off the shelf replacement after facet pump failed - goal was to replace with SU but now I'm selling the car. but it works just fine 40. Most accessible bullet connectors replaced (female portions). male ends cleaned up. 41. Radio removed and blanking plate installed (speakers are still in doors) 42. Cig lighter replaced (still have original) 43. Shift knob replaced (still have original) 44. Leather wrap added to steering wheel (there was slight deterioration of original wheel material). 45. New heater control valve installed (from moss. done proactively - old one looked good upon removal). 46. Bosch lifetime plug wires and Bosch copper plugs. 47. Lucas sport coil 48. New reverse lamp assemblies installed 49. Crankcase vent hose replaced 50. Fuel filter replaced 51. Correct split bumper tag lamps overhauled and installed 52. Missing engine bay weather seal installed 53. All lube points greased from front to back There is more. but this is what comes to mind. I have diligently worked out all of the kinks that would prevent this from being a practical classic that can be used daily. The car is currently registered. insured. and driven. I would suggest that the new owner address the following: 1. Left side ebrake cable needs to be replaced 2. Windshield washer pump is inop 3. Horns are inop ( I have a new horn contact that comes with car). 4. Wiper stalk functions but is loose / comes out on occasion 5. There is a small bubble under the paint above the left rear wheel arch (pictured) 6. There is a small bubble under the paint on the rr quarter panel (pictured) 7. There is a crack on the l/f door just under the window trim (pictured) 8. Be advised that the three mentioned above have never changed since taking ownership of the car - they have always been there and have not grown. 9. The doors have corrosion on the undersides that was stopped long ago - but it's there. so I must disclose. 10. The rear hatch has what appears to be corrosion (possibly a prior repair) coming up along the lower edge - my plan was to replace with a good one one of these days. 11. The lead bead between the r/f fender and cowl is missing a piece - fender would need removal to replace it. 12. There is an occasional pop from the front end when reversing. suspect king pin wear but no play present in suspension when checked on a lift so unsure - I know for sure its not bushing related 13. Left steering rack boot recently split - needs replacement boot kit 14. Shimmy at 65+ mph after last tire rotation - Will be resolved prior to sale 15. I had a minor scuff below rr tail lamp (pictured). 16. There is the normal oil seepage between the engine and bell housing. not a major leak and I have yet to have to correct engine oil or trans oil levels after maintenance so not sure of the source. 17. The left side trunk spring hinge / support sprang apart. trunk stays open but I would replace as it tends to just drop without warning (minor fix. available from moss). The car comes with the following spares: 1. Spare oil filter 2. New clutch and brake master cylinders (came as kit. not needed) 3. Belt line trim and install kit 4. Used side marker lamps - not in great condition 5. Two front seat back squabs (picked up as spares. not needed now) 6. New horn contact 7. Car cover 8. Spare belt 9. Original Lucas alternator 10. Original Lucas starter 11. Original Lucas distributor (all above need overhaul) 12. One set of keys 13. Original Lucas coil 14. Spare braided line for oil pressure sender (one on car is fine) 15. Assorted small items 16. Probably more. will need to go through and see what else I have. This is a great car. I've nit picked my own work and what needs doing as I want to represent it honestly. It is a great driver and I'm sure the next owner will appreciate and enjoy it. and they can do so as it sits now - no work required to have a great practical driver. The engine does not smoke. the trans and clutch are fine. nothing alarming or surprising. I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have and enjoy sharing my experiences. I would strongly encourage a test drive / visit so you can see how good this car is. I will gladly drive to deliver within 35 miles of zip code 33166. Buyer is responsible for shipping.
