Scimitar GTC 1980. Convertible, 2.8 V6, low mileage.

Reliant Scimitar GTC 1980

For sale on behalf of my dad. He has had the car for 11 years. and during that time it has only covered approximately 6000 miles. Unfortunately. due to a change of circumstances. nbsp;it would be used even less in the future so he has reluctantly decided to sell.
At time of writing. mileage is 79607. The car is mechanically good. Bodywork. nbsp;paint. hood and leather interior are also in good condition. Exhaust system. exhaust manifolds and fuel tank are stainless. We believe the car to be genuinely above average but. of course. it is not concours (very few are).  It is a 33 year old car. There are minor marks to the paintwork and minor gelcoat cracking on the front left corner. There is a crack in the wood of the steering wheel.
Having decided to sell. he would prefer to do so sooner rather than later. nbsp;so the car is priced with this in mind. There is no hidden agenda. and we do not know of any 'nasties' waiting for the new owner.

There is a hard top available. but it is not included in this auction as not all owners want them. It will be offered to the winning bidder for £300 if collected at the same time as the car. Otherwise it will be sold separately (but not for the same price!) when the car has gone.

When my dad first bought the car we went through all the items which are prone to wear or known to cause problems. and replaced or sorted them all so the car would be trouble-free when in use.
This included the suspension. brakes. cooling system. steering. engine setup. reconditioned rear axle (yes. it's quiet!) and attention to the electrics/earthing. etc. Most of the interior was removed. a new carpet set fitted. leather seats restitched as necessary. and all reassembled. The rear lap strap seat belts were replaced with 3 point harnesses on inertia reels to provide proper restraint for rear seat passengers.  As a result of this work the car has proven to be reliable. even with limited use. The towbar was fitted by us to provide some rear end protection - it has never been used to tow anything.

Work done just after the car was purchased.

Electrics - new fuse box. all lights. wipers. cooling fan & switch. brake pad wiring sorted. Numerous earths cleaned & protected. Both heater fans resecured to body.

Brakes - servo overhauled. new master cylinder. recon front calipers. new discs & pads. new rear cylinders & shoes. all pipes renewed in copper. all fittings brass. nbsp;hoses replaced with Goodridge 'Aeroquip'.

Suspension - front wishbone polybushes fitted. new ball joints. trunnions. trunnion bushes. track rod ends. Lower wishbone outer ends fitted with grease nipples to keep water out of nylon bushes. New wheel bearings. steering arm bolts. antiroll bar links. front & rear shock absorbers.

Steering - reconditioned PAS rack. new bearing in tensioner pulley.

Cooling - radiator professionally cleaned out. pressure tested. otter switch hole plated over as switches fall out (Kenlowe switch used instead). new thermostat. system flushed. new hoses as required. fresh 50/50 antifreeze mix.

Rear axle - excessive float found in spider gears due to thrust washers worn. Axle removed & stripped. Replacement gear carrier and spider/drive gears fitted. Original CWP retained. All new bearings and pinion oil seal. Bearing preloads and gear tooth contacts correctly set. New halfshaft bearings & oil seals.

Engine - nylon toothed camshaft drive gear discarded as a precaution. New steel/aluminium crank/camshaft set fitted. New oil pump drive shaft and front crank seal. Full service & adjustment/setup. new drive belts. low oil pressure switch fitted (operates the low fuel warning light).

Exhaust  - all new hangers. gaskets. bolts. etc.
