Seller's notes: It has been recently extensively serviced by a specialist classic car garage and has tax and MOT certificate until summer 2014. The car runs well and has retained many of its original features including the original “worm & screw” steering mechanism. The car is by no means perfect (it is after all over 50 years old) It shows some evidence of a minor repair to two of the wings in the distant past. It was probably re-sprayed before I purchased it but having only carefully driven it for the past 10 years I feel sure that any work now required is to the best of my knowledge only cosmetic. The milometer shows some 66,000 miles but this can't be guaranteed. Needs some rechroming and a carpet kit fitting (£370)

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.15) based on 435 votes
For sale is a very striking Daimler SP250 “Dart” presented in bright red and chrome with cream upholstery that has been owned by me for the past 10 years. This car is not a converted foreign import but is one of the fairly small number of cars remaining that were made for the British sports car market and so represents a piece of British motoring history and a solid investment for the future. This rare car is a “B” series that was first registered in 1962 that has had 4 owners since that time. It is sold having been recently extensively serviced by a specialist classic car garage and has road tax and an MOT certificate until the summer of 2014. The car runs well and has retained many of its original features including the original “worm & screw” steering mechanism and although rack and pinion steering is regarded as an acceptable modification this has not been added to this car which remains as originally designed. However. at some time in the past the car was fitted with a 1960's style “Wood rim” steering wheel and also chrome wire wheels (the original wheels have been retained and are included in the sale of the car) but otherwise I believe this lovely vehicle to be fairly original. The car is certainly a “head turner” but could now do with some exterior parts re-chroming and a new carpet kit fitting inside. The car is by no means perfect (it is after all over 50 years old) and it shows some evidence of a minor repair to two of the wings in the distant past. It was probably re-sprayed before I purchased it but having only carefully driven it for the past 10 years I feel sure that any work now required is to the best of my knowledge only cosmetic. The body being fibre glass cannot rust. an innovation at the time. and can be easily and economically repaired should it become necessary. The milometer shows some 66. 00 miles but as this is a bit unreliable the mileage cannot be guaranteed. I have enjoyed every minute of owning this car and it comes with a large file containing a lot of its history. If you want a classic car that is increasingly rare and represents a good investment for the future - then look no further. The background to Daimler SP250 cars is fairly well known. Only 2. 45 were produced between 1959 and 1964. with this particular car manufactured in 1962. Around two thirds were exported leaving only a relatively small number for the British market and probably due to the British climate few of these now remain. The Dart has a fibre glass body mounted to a sturdy ladder chassis and is powered by a 2. 5 litre Hemi–Head V8 engine designed by Edward Turner. It is hardly surprising that such a fantastic power to weight ratio gave it excellent performance and when new the Daimler SP250 was presented as a “quality” sports car that boasted a 0 – 60 time of 8. 9 seconds and a top speed of 120mph - still better than many modern day cars. Unfortunately. the production of the Dart ended prematurely because of direct competition from the Jaguar ‘E' type following a merger between Daimler and Jaguar. The Daimler SP250 Dart is therefore a unique and a comparatively rare vehicle that represents a piece of British Motoring design at its best. a taste of mid twentieth century nostalgia and excitement as well as a sound investment for the future.
