Ford Escort RS2000 MK2 Custom for sale
Current customer rating: (581 votes ) based onITEM RELISTED AS A CLASSIFIED AD AS THE PREVIOUS AUCTION WINNING BIDDER (with very good feedback surprisingly) STATED HE HAD NOT READ THE DESCRIPTION AND THOUGHT HE COULD USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE TO BARTER!If you have any questions then please contact me. I can talk all day about my RS and am happy to do so. so please get in touch. As a result of this little episode. i respectfully request that serious buyers could kindly e-mail me and arrange a viewing if they are to consider buying her. I know that if i was to spend this much again. as i did when i bought her. id be checking and poking all over the car before making a serious offer.
Sorry about that. Much appreciatedAlex
Id put the kettle on and sit down with a bru if you are going to read this lot as this is going to be a long and thorough description of my much much loved genuine MK2 RS2000 Custom.
She currently has an 9 month MOT which came with no advisories. She sailed through! Also has 3 months tax.
I bought this car approximately six to seven years ago from a chap in Scotland after wanting one for years and years after driving a colleagues. The RS was in a fair condition when i bought her and very useable. I used her for around a year or so whilst trying to find a premises to restore her in and i then took her off the road. My intention was to build a reliable MK2 RS which would be subtly modified to retain its originality in essence. I didn't want to loose the gorgeous looks of this classic to a world of off the shelf modifications and i feel i achieved this tastefully. The Photos dated 26/06/2010 are exactly how she looks and sits now apart from a crease in the drivers door which is also photographed. I have used these pics as they do the car justice and really show the quality of the work that had been completed by my panel repairer. One picture shows all the MOT's that this vehicle has ever had dating back to 1982. This confirms the mileage. GCAT chassis etc is accurate and true. It also shows a number of old V% documents along with my current one. The other document picture is a mountain of receipts and invoices dating back over 30 years. This car has had thousands and thousands spent on her over the years and if you are a nostalgic type like me. you can spend hours digging through them all and really building up an accurate picture of how this car has been loved from day one!I will not detail each invoice in this description as i will be here for days. but i will explain all the work i have completed on the car since i have owned her. So then. Car taken off the road and stripped to a bare shell (see pics above). The shell was then taken to a colleague ( i worked in a bodyshop at the time) who fitted x2 doorskins as the originals were bubbling and i didn't want them plating. fitted a BOLT IN 4 point Safety Devices roll cage. filled and blocked a couple of dings on the bonnet to a very high standard. re-repaired the rear arches as they had been done previously but were slightly wavy to look at and completed a stunning full shell respray outside and in. Other work done in the shop:Eyelet threads welded between the rear seat base and also on the floor behind front seats. This was so harness eyelets can be easily wound in and 4 point harnesses can be fitted. Harnesses are currently fitted and i no longer have the original seatbelts as these had been worn and damaged over time. The front seat mounting brackets were also repaired and reinforced. A common area of weakness on the MK1 and 2. An adjustable panhard rod box has been welded into the underside of the boot floor ready for the panhard rod to be fitted. This was painted at the same time and looks like a factory job. The rod has not been fitted as i haven't got round to having the bracket welded to the diff. The rod. bracket and assembly will come with the car for the buyer to fit at their leisure. A solid aluminium strut brace was welded onto the inner wings and again. is of a factory standard. It looks great!I had the cage painted in situ so you cant really see it until you sit in the car. Looks very good and can easily be removed if its not for you. The full car was then subjected to an assault of wax oil in every door. wing. chassis leg. nook and cranny.
Now the rebuild. ll start from the back in an attempt not to miss anything. Battery (new) located in the boot and nicely fitted. I intended to eventually fit a set of 40's however i never got round to it. All correctly wired and terminals protected. See pics. New boot carpet. New rear light clusters. New fog lightSpeakers sank into the parcel shelf. The shelf trim was then re-upholstered in acoustic carpet and looks seamless. All the boot floor is original. un-welded and un-repaired. It was repainted when the car was resprayed. The car has an electric internal boot release which is operated from the centre console. The entire car has been Poly bushed and what a difference! She feels solid and so responsive. Every brake line has been replaced. Mainly for my peace of mind. Diff stripped. checked. cleaned. painted. lowered slightly and reassembled. New handbrake cable. New NSR brake cylinder. She would benefit from a new rear screen seal.
Middle. All new carpets inside and headlining. Sunroof does not leak. New OS and NS rear window sealsNew wheel arch interior trimsBolt in roll cage4 point clip in harnessThe rear seat base could do with a recover. The Betacloth is torn at the rear. but this is hidden by the seat upright. it all depends how particular you are and if it will nag you just by knowing its there. The front seats are in good condition. The drivers seat has a little wear to the bolster. again it would look better with a retrim. but looks quite presentable as it is. All RS Custom trim is there and fully functional. The centre console has had switches placed in it at some point and i had the switch holes taped off. I have now placed switches in these holes with a view to use them for something. they are currently unused. The console also houses the internal boot release switch. New speedo cableMaster battery cut out switch where the original choke one was. The switch has been fitted so it looks like its supposed to be there and the choke has been moved to the far left of the under dash. No stereo is included in the sale however it is wired for a modern stereo system to be simply plugged in. The battery cut out switch does not affect the radio as i wired in a small permanent live so i didn't loose the radio channels. The car is fitted with an OMEX rev limiter/shift light which is fully adjustable. The shift light is sank into the dash binnacle. The little switches that turn the interior light on when you open the door do not work. but the interior light does work if you physically turn it on from inside the vehicle. She would benefit from a new windscreen seal. The one i bought just doesn't sit right and is designed for an insert. The RS seals shouldn't have inserts and it doesn't look as good as it could with the correct part.
Front. I rebuilt the original engine to the following spec. Lightened and balanced flywheel. reground crank. oversized pistons. skimmed block for compression. high torque starter. ported and polished unleaded head. It cost me a fortune however the shells spun and so i have placed another (202) pinto bottom end in her to use whilst i rebuilt the 2. 1 block. The replacement bottom end had the lightened and balanced fly fitted. high torque starter. ported and polished head fitted. new water pump. tensioner pulley. cam belt. points. condensor. rotor. dizzy cap. HT Leads. coil. full gaskets. fuel filter. oil pick up pipe. new oil pump and full clutch kit. As i say it was my intention to rebuild the original engine. It will be supplied as it is the original (matching numbers) engine to the winning bidder. The engine runs on the original twin choke DGAV carb and runs well. However i think this carb has seen better days. Ashley 2 inch full exhaust system (twin box so not too loud but sounds nice). World cup cross memberQuick steering rackNice aluminium radiator to keep her cool on those hot sunny days. Front capri 2. 8 Bilsteins. The NSF wheel bearing has recently been replaced to an extremely poor standard which has caused the wheel bearing to collapse. personally i think it was overtightened. The bad news is that i cant seem to pull the hub from the stubaxle. It may need a new strut as a result of this! The brakes need to be fully re-bled. I have a new wheel bearing to fit if the buyer manages to remove the hub. Good luck! The gearbox is a Type9 5 Speed. It selects well and is silent. It has an ever so slight. and i mean slight oil leak. I have a full seal kit to sort this which will be included. This is the only oil leak on the entire car. The engine. gearbox. rear diff and fuel system have all recently been treated with ZX1 friction reduction additive. New clutch cable. Modern spade fuse box.
I have read it a thousand times on ebay but i truly do have a genuine reason for sale. Im finally going to be a dad and i cant justify owning both this and a motorbike for just me to use on sunny days. So it looks like ill be buying a camper resto project for the family to enjoy. eventually!
I think i have touched on everything here. i have probably missed a few things and so will update when i remember. Due to the strut issue. this car needs to be trailered away. Please take this into consideration when making your offer as i wont knock these costs off the price that you agree to pay for her. Any Question please give me a shout through the correct channels. I would prefer payment via bank transfer. cheques or cash on collection. If you wish to buy it now. please please get in touch before you press the button. All funds MUST be cleared before the vehicle will be released.
If you are genuinely interested and you have low feedback then please drop me a line first but please please please no jokers! I simply wont entertain you!
Finished that bru?
Many thanks for your interestAlex
Hi. nbsp;thanks for all the questions and interest already!
Quick amendment to the description.
It is the OSF strut that has the wheel bearing issue and not the NS.
In the description i put "V%". I meant V5. The choke has been put to the far right under dash and not left. ooops.
It has all new door and boot seals.
She would benefit from a buff as she wasn't done after the respray and didn't immediately cry out for one. A testament to the quality of the paintwork i guess. If i was to keep her id take her to a body shop and have the door crease removed and whole car buffed. The crease has not damaged the paintwork and so can be rolled out at the fraction of the cost of a repair.
Thanks againAlex.
