MotoeXotica Classic Cars is especially pleased to offer this one-of-a-kind 1972 International-Harvester Scout II. It has been lovingly owned by the same family since new.
What makes this truck so unique? Its first driver was Mr. H. F. (Frank) Entwisle. a former I-H Design Engineer. It was his executive vehicle for six months and while he drove it. several items were added to it for testing and evaluation for potential new production – 392 CID V-8 intake manifold and a four-barrel 4150 Holley carburetor (which was recently rebuilt with newest gasket materials). electronic ignition and Dana Speedostat Cruise Control. The engine is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.
This truck was assembled in Fort Wayne. Indiana. and passed its final inspection on November 5. 1971. before being sent on a hop. skip and a jump to the local I-H dealer and invoiced from the factory three days later. It came from the factory with the following equipment – heavy-duty rear step bumper. FA-13 front drive axle with locking hub. power steering. power brakes. cigar lighter. five-way trailer wiring. dual electric horns. 12-volt increased capacity electrical system. AM radio. chrome wheel covers. rear seat dome light. undercoat. 345 CID V-8 engine. three-speed automatic transmission. 3. 31 gearing. 19-gallon fuel tank. tinted glass. cargo area mat. Eaton air-conditioner. customer interior trim. deluxe exterior trim. full width rear seat and H78x15 tires.
The Scout was optioned specifically for his father. who drove it from 1972 to 1996. when Entwisle bought it back from him. During the late 1990s. Mr. Entwisle took the truck down to its bare frame. renewing anything mechanical or cosmetic that needed refreshing. All replacement and repair body parts are steel and extremely straight. The body color is not original (truck originally came in Gold Poly ((code 4357)) with Sage interior) but contemporary to the late 1990s and one they would have used if I-H had not quit making Scouts in 1980. Paint work was detailed by the original body shop. The truck's paint is very good but there are minor dings upon close visual inspection. but the glass panes and lights are in fine form. the engine bay is tidy and the battery is almost new.
Mr. Entwisle also added features that he wanted to put into production but which were not cost approved by his chief engineer and items I-H later incorporated into Scouts. This Scout now has – a vintage Recaro driver's seat; wood-look. three-spoke steering wheel; dual-glass sunroofs that open for venting; a Custom Autosound vintage-look AM/FM stereo with cassette deck; dual. hidden Jensen front speaker assembly; additional Jensen rear speakers; reinforced rear folding seat with center seat belts mounted on seas for a clear floor when seats are folded; three-point shoulder/lap seat belts; dual exhausts; undercoated FRP inner fender liners front and rear; a Dana 44 front drive axle with disc brakes. matching brake booster. master cylinder and proportioning valve; I-H Lock-O-Matic hubs. Entwisle also added an electric fuel pump and switch to fill the carb since the truck was not driven daily. The truck has a level stance because he added one more leaf to each rear spring pack plus a second front sway bar and a rear axle sway bar.
Inside. the seats are in very good condition. the full Sage carpeting is in good shape. the instrument panel and steering wheel look good. the headliner is in decent shape and t\he gauges work as designed. There is one interior trim piece missing but overall. the mirrors. center console and shifter all look good for their age.
Documents include original and a copy of owner's manual. copies of line setting ticket. chassis inspection card. service unit record. radio and antenna owner's manual. original Revision No. 2 to PL-382 Price List. To Vehicle Owner Speedostat hang tag. I-H Truck Scout II Service Manual. copies of Classic Auto Restorer magazine article on Scouts. Custom Autosound owner's manual for stereo and original I-H How to Obtain Right Parts for Your Truck envelope. The truck's battery was replaced on December 24. 2015.
