   Real Ford 427 Dual Holley "High-Riser" Big BlockC5AE-A 1965 Casting #'s with cross-bolt main capsShort-shaft. big input Top-loader Big Block 4 speed
Although every aspect of my Cobra is very nice. the drive-train is certainly the Crown Jewel of the car. I doubt you will find a more vintage correct and authentic power plant in any others you see for sale. Years were spent locating the engine. transmission. intake and carburetors with close to matching date codes. This drive-train was NOT thrown together. A lot of thought and comprehensive research went into the build of this car. not to mention the many thousands of $$$'s invested in the mechanical components alone and those calculations are based on late 1980's dollars. Just look on the internet for yourself to see how much these engines sell for when they are complete and correct from carburetor's to oil pan. Completed over 20 years ago with only 1100 total miles on the odometer. Always parked in a climate controlled garage and never driven in the rain. In fact. the car has never had water on it. It is hand-rubbed to keep clean. A hoot to drive is a gross understatement. She is user-friendly and fairly predictable but caution and commonsense are a MUST at all times!
Please note: Under the first 3 photos I will provide write-up's for the exterior. interior and engine bay. Suspension. transmission and rear differential will be described at appropriate photographs as well.
I will also make a few brief comments under certain pictures throughout the photo display. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Cobra in person to anyone with sincere interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows the car clearly and accurately. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the car for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My telephone number is
503-575-0404 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Tuesday. the 2nd of July at 10AM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I accept a genuine offer and the car becomes no longer available.

PLEASE. nbsp;read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way.

NO RESERVE AUCTION

I did not set a reserve price on my Cobra. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see in my driveway here at home. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my car and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time. DAVE

The body was manufactured by Shell Valley and purchased directly from them in May of 1990. The paint and stripes are done nicely and I would rate the overall body and finish as an 8+ on a scale of 10. Not to Concourse level but the car shows and presents itself extremely well. Compliments are overwhelming every time I take her out. All chrome exterior accessories are perfect and free of any tarnish or pitting. Windshield frame. bumpers. roll bar. etc. still look new. Again. the car is always kept in-doors and has seen very little daylight. 1100 miles in 23 years says it all.                    The seats are custom done in leather and still appear as new. The carpet. dashboard and door panels are just about perfect as well.                    The solid lifter 427 "Top Oiler" runs beautifully. This is an original engine with the correct 427 cross-bolt main bearing caps and the 3 castle-head style bolts just above the oil pan located on both sides of the block. Date code 1965 C5AE-A block casting with correct C4AE-6090F high-riser heads. The dates coincide as original. mated components and based on the intelligent history that was shared with me. the block and heads have always been married. It was also conveyed to me that Holman-Moody performed modifications to this engine as they were well known for doing. I have no concrete evidence of this but believe the source this information came from. The dual Holley carburetors are also correct C4AF date codes and if my memory is serving me accurately. the intake matches as well. More drive-train information under upcoming photos.                      Almost 25 years of records and a photo album of the build process. Some of this I will pass on to the new owner.                                        The sound of this car is second to none!! Whether at idle waiting for a stop light to turn green or on acceleration as you shift through the gears. this car has a tone that demands being noticed and respected.                                                            Each picture speaks for itself and I apologize if they start looking similar and you get dizzy scrolling through all of them. I simply wanted to show the car from as many different angles as possible. I figured too much was better than not enough.                      The goal was to have an authentic looking COBRA as they were configured in the 1960's. With few exceptions. mission accomplished.                                        The fasteners are for the high-quality blue canvas cockpit cover that is neatly stored in the trunk.                                                                                                                                                                                                        She has been driven VERY little since being completed over 20 years ago. In fact. she hasn't been outside much at all since 2008. It is my intention to renew the registration before handing her over to the next owner.
All lights. gauges. etc. are functioning properly.                    Even the license plate light works.                                                                                                                        Total miles traveled since completion.                    Correct "T" reverse lock-out. Reverse is to the left (towards driver) and down next to 2nd gear.                    Every gauge functions accurately. Yes. the volt meter works too. It takes a minute for the needle to move but the charging system is perfect. Even the clock keeps correct time when set.                                                                                                                        May 18th. 1990. This picture and the 30 photos under it are some of what is in the photo album.                    Gotta love the shorts!                                                                                                                                            The entire engine was gone through with no expense spared.                    These are the original 11 to 1 dome pistons. The engine was standard bore when acquired almost 25 years ago. During the rebuild process the cylinders were bored . 030 over and flat-top pistons were installed. I saved the old pistons for authenticity purposes.                                                            Art Morrison adjustable 4-link rear suspension. Ford 9 inch housing has been narrowed. It is a big bearing unit with Daytona pinion carrier and 3:50 POSI.                                                            Temp activated electric fan has been upgraded since this photo was taken. I got stuck in some traffic the day I took all of these photos. She always stays in comfortable temperature range.                                                            Try locating this engine now days and make note of what they are worth. As mentioned previously. this is a real 427 Solid lifter High-Riser Big Block as supported and verified by the cross bolt main bearing caps and the 3 castle-head style bolts on each side of the block. Even 23 to 25 years ago when these components were located and professionally assembled it was NO cheap task. I can only imagine what it would cost today.                                        The transmission is a short-shaft. big input Top-loader 4 speed for big block application that works perfectly. I used to have a sheet that decoded all of the casting numbers on it (numbers pictured below) but it is not with the rest of my documentation. As I recall. it was out of a big block 1967 Mustang.                                                                                                                                                                                                        These SHELBY style wheels were located and restored and are currently on the car along with the BF Goodrich tires that have 1100 miles on them.                                                                                                                                                                                              Please notice that the rear air-cleaner had to be modified slightly in order to clear the hood.                                                            The engine is currently in perfect tune. The carburetors are dialed and stay in-sync. She always starts easily even after sitting and has crisp throttle response. Power is impressive to say the least. Hold on if you plan to put your foot on the gas. The solid lifters have stayed in correct adjustment and if you didn't know differently. you'd assume it's a hydraulic motor. No valve-train noise.                    The gas tank was custom made and holds almost exactly 25 gallons. She isn't very fuel efficient so the large tank is beneficial. The fuel gauge is calibrated and reads accurately.                    Also. there has been evidence of minor fluid leaks on my garage floor. Nothing of concern or requiring immediate repair but it's probably time to go through and tighten things after all these years.                    If you look closely at this photo you will see the 427 castle-head style bolts just above the oil pan where the pan meets the block.                    4 wheel DISC brakes. The suspension is fully adjustable. She has been sitting ignored for many years and I would recommend having the suspension re-set. During my last drive I noticed some unevenness while going over dips in the road.                                                              This photo and several of the pictures below show as many casting numbers and codes as I could clearly see. Feel free to research and verify them for accuracy on your own. If you have a question regarding numbers. don't hesitate to contact me and I will share the most honest information I can.                                                                                                    Most States will honor this VIN number. I still have many years of the previous Oregon registrations that show this VIN and list the year as 1967. However. when she crossed the bridge from Oregon into Washington they insisted on assigning their own identification number and listed the year as 1990 (the year the body was purchased). My office is in Portland Oregon but our home is 9 miles away in Vancouver Washington. So close but yet different in little ways. I intend to transfer her back to Oregon during the auction. In any case. the car is transferable to any State and 100% legitimate. I have the genuine clear certificate of title in order to provide a smooth transfer of ownership even if she leaves the United States and goes to Canada or overseas. I will also compose a detailed bill-of-sale for the next owner.                                        Transmission castings.                    Stampings located at the end of the transmission tail-shaft. This is a small car Ford big block transmission. Extremely difficult to find.                    More transmission numbers. Please note: There are 1965 and 1966 castings on the transmission. That is normal. It does NOT automatically dictate there are components from 2 different units. Ford used the same castings for more than one year.                      Block casting. REAL 427 not a 390. A 1965 390 block could have these casting numbers but only the 427 would have the cross-bolt main bearing caps and castle-head style bolts above the oil pan. A "true" 427.                    Correct carburetor numbers.                    My wife won't even ride in the Cobra. She says she smells like exhaust afterwards. She's right. I can't understand why that's not enjoyable. Perfume to some. smelly to others. I love the hint of exhaust that lingers on you after a drive but that's just me I guess. I have deep appreciation for this car but she just sits ignored and hibernates in the garage. The monster that hides under the hood deserves everyone's appreciation. Someone should regularly exercise and enjoy her. I have others that demand my time. A very unique car that does a superb job of separating itself from the rest. Thanks again-                                                Terms of Sale: Vehicle being sold AS-IS:              Please read and agree with the following:
