This 1970 Shelby GT500 fastback has stood the test of time. It has been hidden away in a warehouse in downtown Oklahoma City (along with several other Shelby's) for over 35 years. It was part of the French Hickman collection. French played a key role in founding the Mid America Ford and Shelby Nationals.  French hosted one of the first of the clubs gatherings in his back yard. This red GT500 was there for the second annual show in 1975. French stopped driving the car in 1980 as evident by the last inspection sticker still on the windshield. I was lucky enough to get to be one of the first to inspect these cars in the winter of 2014. As soon as I raised the hood on this 70 Shelby that day I knew we weren't leaving OKC without it on the trailer. I was amazed to find all the original smog and complete air cleaner assembly still in place after all those years. The original interior was dirty but in very good condition. The car had been repainted sometime early in its life because of a minor fender bender damaging the Rt Qt panel. The body has very minimal rust in the lower corners of the doors and a small spot at the bottom of the left Qt. I was again amazed that the original 7. 35 space saver spare. nbsp;inflator bottle. jack and lug wrench were still in place in the trunk. The floors of the car are beautiful and show zero signs of rust.  The original grey batch paint and overspray is still shining under the car.  After getting the car back home we began to start the process of bringing her back to life.  The complete fuel system was cleaned and flushed out. The original water pump. alternator. fuel pump and unique 70 carb were rebuilt. The original calipers. wheel cylinders and master cylinder was rebuilt along with repacking the wheel bearings and resurfacing the original rotors. The car still has a set of original Kelsey/Hayes brake pads that have several miles left on them.  Then I began to see if the 80K mile original #'s matching engine had any life left in it.  I could list all of the original parts still under the hood but it is much easier for me to tell you what has been changed because the list is short. The list of things changed consists of. nbsp;the air filter. oil filter. plug wires. belts. battery. negative battery cable and ft shocks. The rest of the engine compartment components are original to the car. After making sure everything was in good condition we fired up the engine and it sounded great.  Now the rest of the car just needed a major detailing. While cleaning the interior I pulled the carpet back to look for the build sheet and was surprised to 2 near perfect sheets under the original underlayment. I also found a few old receipts. a name badge for French at one of the Shelby meets. a time slip from the drag strip and the original owner card still in the glove box.  After putting on a few test miles I decided to take the car to the 42nd Mid America Ford and Shelby Nationals this year in Tulsa OK. The car preformed flawlessly in the Thursday night cruise to the Brady District in the June Oklahoma heat.  I've enjoyed this car for the last couple of years but its now time to find her a new home. I have several more photos and will be glad to send them to anyone who is interested. If you are lucky enough to be the winning bidder I will require a $2. 00 deposit within 3 days of the close of the auction. I will allow 30 days for the car to be picked up after the auction has ended and final payment is made.  Feel free to contact me with any questions at 918-645-0536.
