I'm ready to move on to some new projects and part with my wonderful Skyliner. I've had this car for over a year now and its been driven almost every week. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. and its been one of the more reliable vehicles I've owned in my short time with it.

This is a 1957 Skyliner with a 312 Y-Block V8 and 4-speed auto. The Skyliners were only made for three years (1957-1959) and offered the first mainstream retractable hard tops in the automotive world. I think the 57s are more aesthetically desirable. and despite the rough edges. this car has always collected interest and shouts from passerbys.

As this car is a project. there are mainly roof and body issues. The car runs and drives fantastic. but it needs minor bodywork and paint to really shine. There are some minor dents in the rear and some holes here and there. but the body is straight and the rust is pretty minimal for a car this old. The roof needs work. but thankfully. it's mostly fabrication related. More on that below.

The retractable design on these cars is fairly reliable for what it is. but troubleshooting the relays. switches. and electrics can be a pain when necessary. There is one minor electrical issue on this roof. and it exists with the dash switch. All functions of the retraction process are working. and can be exercised by jumping the respective relays in the relay box (behind the rear seat). I haven't sat down with a multimeter to solve this particular problem. but I suspect there is an issue with the dash switch itself. a grounding issue. or connection to the relay box. It's an upstream issue though. and should be easy to fix for someone who can spare a day or two.

The main issue is the roof itself. The bottom requires some fab work as this rear-most brackets are currently detached. This means the roof is functional. but it requires some help to guide up or down. All of the flappers. motors. and screw lock mechanisms are operational. I can demo this as well.

Here's all of the solid aspects of the car
Fires right up
Runs like a top. shifts smooth
Roof works by jumping the relays (pictured)
Seats are weathered. but no major rips/tears
Carpet is good
Windows all function
Fresh Oil and Oil Filter
Air blowers (on dash) work
Lights (and brights) work
Turn signals work (need to be cleaned)
Tons of extra parts! (rear glass intact. trim pieces. boxes of extras)

Heres the bad
Aforementioned work needed on roof (though electricals are mostly solid)
Bodywork/paint needed
Radio does not work
Driver side glass needs replacement
Interior needs a little love

The title is on hand and clean. Registration is good until October. I'm asking $14. 00. but I'm open to offers. The car is in Campbell. thanks!
