Cortina GT 1966

How many 47 year old cars do you come across. owned by the same family from new. serviced by the same main dealer from new. ith all invoices.  with all original documents. it even has the deposit receipt when the car was ordered.  and precise family kept history as well.

The history of MPE 515D

On the 22 April 1966 Arthur Hills picked up his new Cortina GT. nbsp;from Mooores of Weighbridge. nbsp;trading in his 1955 Standard for £45. As extras he had overiders and wing mirrors fitted from new. costing him £822. 8. 4. in total.

This car was purchased for him and his son 33 year old Peter to share. as they were both accountants. they were going to keep a log of every penny spent and every journey it went on. Peter never married and stayed with his parents always and for years the Cortina was used for family holidays. to include continental trips and trips to Scotland and of course any trip in between. As I said they kept an accurate log. of fuel. servicing and any extras the car ever needed and a running total of the cars cost. right up until 1990

In 1984. Arthur. had the Cortina spruced up. with new ford wings. the usual strut tops and outer sills fitted and sprayed in the cars colour. And they are all perfect 29 years later. Sadly in 1988 Aurther  passed away and  Peter kept the car. putting the log book in his name. but carrying on the  logging of everything the car needed. she carried on going to the same Ford main dealer she had always been to. The car had been a daily driver until  1991. when Peter then sadly passed away. as he still lived in the same house he was born in. his mother left it in the garage until recently. when she joined her husband and son and the car finally saw the light of day. she has had the minimal amount of work done to make her move and stop. had a clean up and was presented for an mot. she did fail. but on lights . ashers and brake umbalance. nothing major at all.

The cars condition

It is hard to describe a 44 year old car. but here goes. In my opinion. it has that old patina look to it. with minor work you could have it on the road in no time and it would be quite a sight at any Ford show. looking around the car. there is storage damage to the roof (see pic) something fell on it. one of the n/s doors has rust in it and one of the rear wings has rust at the bottom a few scratches here and there and that is about it. I personally would use it as is. but if you wanted it as new. a minor body restoration and repaint and  a lovley car she would make.

On the inside. totally original. with all the extras fitted. still in place the is a small tear in the headlining. by the dent. it has that lovley old car smell to it.

The boot is as new no signs of welding at all.

Under the bonnet. strut tops and that is it.

I have driven it. what a thrill to drive an old original classic. It went well. the engine purred. but I would say it needs a tune. the gearbox felt fine. but I would say the gear selection was a bit sloppy.   The clutch works sort of. as does the brakes. the exhaust was ok until I returned. it now has loads of holes in it and it blows.

To sum up. a rare rare car. totally original. very usable. with the most incredible history. you will wait a long time to find another one. /p>

There is a sensible reserve on it. if it does not make it. she will return to the garage for a few years.
