So you want a car with a story behind it? Here's one for you. By the time this 1960 Triumph TR3A was 8 years old. it had become high stakes in a roving poker game in the African American community of Canton. Georgia. my hometown. After I "rescued" the car in 1970. I spent weeks chasing down parts in basements. garages. and outbuildings of previous winners. Seems every owner removed one part or another as a souvenir before putting the dwindling carcass back into the Friday night game. Finally I collected all the hard metal parts. The soft parts are long gone. but most of those have to be replaced in a full restoration anyway.

From 1970 until 1980 it hid out in corncrib on my family's farm in Cherokee County. GA. When I put it on a trailer and moved it from Georgia to Tennessee in 1980. I pulled off to the roadside to check the hitch. and a good Samaritan stopped and yelled. "Hey! Anybody hurt?"

I disassembled the car and put the parts in my attic and later in my basement while looking forward to that day I could restore it. I stored the chassis and motor in an old shed on my brother's property in Loudon County. TN. In the intervening years. someone stole the engine block (not the head). but left the chassis untouched. I'm guessing they sold it at scrap metal prices. (As to cost. a rebuilt engine block doesn't cost much more than rebuilding an existing block. and. in my pricing. I've allowed for buying a rebuilt block. ) The offer includes an optional fiberglass hardtop that could look great if restored.

I always name my Triumphs (I've had 9) after the horses of famous people. This one I named "Traveler" after Robert E. Lee's famous white stallion.

In the 1980s I restored a few individual parts. but my business became international. and I started traveling a lot. leaving no time for hobbies (--but maybe someday?) In 2015 my brother sold his property and I had to move the car into my garage in west Knox County. Now. I realize I will never do right by this classic TR3. So I'm offering Ol' Traveler for sale. as is.
