1938 PACKARD SUPER 8

1938 PACKARD SUPER 8 TOURING SEDAN. a lovely car that has been the recipient of extensive documented recent restoration work resulting in a car that operates  like it did in 1938 !

This is the Super 8. so it has the big 320 cubic inch super 8. it's a full CCCA Classic. eligible for all  CCCA tours. Grand Classic shows. and CAR-A-VAN tours. Of course it's also eligible for AACA events and both Packard clubs.

It's a big. impressive. luxurious car. with all of the high quality appointments that Packard built into it!  Powerful 8 Cylinder engine. dual sidemounts. cormorant hood ornament. factory radio. factory heater. full instrumentation. independent front suspension. powerful hydraulic brakes. and 16 inch drop center wheels with radial whitewall tires.  

The interior is beautifully appointed. with the correct rich wool broadcloth fabric. tailored in exactly the factory pattern. The Steering wheel was recast in exactly the translucent plastic that Packard used. topped off with a beautiful Packard Crest horn center.   The dashboard is painted in the '38 Only gray. nbsp; and the instrument faces are all restored and beautiful.   The doorhandles and window cranks are the '38 only ribbed pattern items.   Everywhere you look on this car it has been beautifully and correctly done!

There has been a tremendous amount of mechanical work done over the last 5 years. including a full engine rebuild. transmission rebuild. ew radiator. nbsp;brakes. tires. and on and one. to the tune of $35. 00. After this work was done. the car has proven itself a reliable and comfortable CAR-A-VAN car. notably on the 2010 Pacific Northwest CAR-A-VAN of over 1. 00 miles.  

The mechanical work included a fabulous engine detail - all of the finishes and colors are correct. even the porcelainized manifold is beautiful. Opening that hood is like being inside the Packard dealer in 1938!

Operating it is a delight - It starts instantly. and idles down super slow and smooth. It has excellent power. the transmission feels wonderful - all of the synchro's are working properly. and the gear change feels tight and crisp. like it would have when it was new. The brakes are powerful hydraulics. and work exactly as they should. the oil pressure stays high. and the temperature gauge stays low. nbsp;just like they're supposed to.  I felt like I was piloting a brand new '38 Packard down the road when I drove it.

The chrome plating is all done and is beautiful. likewise the stainless trim and stainless items.

It has achieved it's First Place badge in National CCCA judging. with badge # 2753. along with an AACA trophy badge.

I noticed that the paint shows a bit of age and some lacquer checking. which I attempt to show in the photos. There is some window de-lamination on the windshield and vent windows. and the undercarriage is reasonably clean but not show detailed.   Please note there is a State of California assigned VIN number. A50118.   The title matches that. and it's a clean California title with no liens or encumbrances.
