Here is a beautifully restored 1940 Packard 8 Cylinder 120 Club sedan. this is a very rare bodystyle. and in my opinion the best looking of the closed Packards that year.

The 120 was a tremendously sophisticated car. with independent front suspension. optional factory overdrive. a powerful 120 Horsepower 8 cylinder engine ( hence the "120" designation)

Many factory options were available to make it a luxurious and pleasant driving experience.   Indeed. even today. it will keep up with freeway traffic!

This car has many desirable options and equipment. including:

 ·         282 Cubic inch 8 cylinder engine - runs GREAT!

·         Factory overdrive. works perfectly.

·         Cormorant hood ornament

·         Runningboard delete option

·         Front triplex bumperguard

·         Radio (not working now)

·         Dual heater - firewall and floor mounts

·         Foglamps

·         Turn signals and brakelights

·         Wool broadcloth upholstery

·         Firestone 6. 50X16 wide whitewall tires

·         Factory electric windshield wipers. work great

·         accessory interior fan mounted under the dash

·         auxilliary modern electric fuel pump

The restoration was completed in about 2005 according to the notes and photo album that accompany the car. It was beautifully done in lacquer paint. in the very attractive and correct Packard Color. Wilshire Green.   All of the chrome was done too. the glass is all new.

The interior is just spectacular. with lovely green wool broadcloth. matching carpeting. and a terrific woodgrain effect on the dashboard and window openings.   The steering wheel was beautifully restored in the "swirled" plastic pattern. which matches the door and window handle escutcheons.    I can't emphasize enough how beautiful the interior of this car is.   Sitting at the driver's seat is like being at the dealer in 1940. it is that fresh and nice!

Operating this car is delightful.   The engine starts right away and has good power. it's nice and smooth. hitting on all 8 cylinders. The steering and front suspension are tight. span >  and the brakes stop sure and straight. the overdrive and overdrive light work great every time.   It runs cool. halfway up the temperature gauge. and the oil pressure stays at 30 PSI all the time. The speedometer works great. as do the amp guage and fuel gauge.   the wiring is all new. correct style wiring harness.   I bought this car and drove it home on the freeway. 65 miles of the worst that Los Angeles freeway traffic has to offer. and the Packard 120 took it all in stride. and made it as pleasant a drive as could be. I felt good that the additional modern taillights and turn signals were there to warn the in-attentive modern drivers about my presence!   I really enjoy driving this car!

Flaws?  OK. span >  it's not a top showcar. but you could take it to any show and be proud of it. The laquer paint has some cracking spots. especially around the trunk. and some at the forward edge of the roof. The paint. although good. does show some age.    The radio and clock don't work. span >  and I noticed a shallow dent in one of the hubcaps. span >  and the plating on the gas cap looks old to me.

Most Packard 120's are not even close to this nice. span >  the restorer's work resulted in a beautiful and correct Packard that would be a pleasure for the new owner to drive.
