1968 VW Microbus. Original paint, RUNNING & DRIVING project vehicle.Red interior

A nice original unmolested 68 Microbus project from Sweden.

This is the first production year of the bay window and a desirable vehicle that will be a great investment. There are some one year only features which may seem small but are actually something that sets the 68 apart from other bays. The rearview interior mirror is longer and polished aluminium finish. the door cab door handles have round push buttons like the splitscreen models did. the wiper shafts and arms are different and this bus has both of its correct and original 68 only wiper arms (very hard to find). the steering column and dash are slightly different too.   

The vehicle has been parked for some years and is still in its factory original paint.  This is a massive plus point for it as not only can you see exactly what you are getting ie no hidden accident damage. filler etc but original paint vehicles are sought after and much preferred over repainted ones.

Being off the road for a while also means it has remained free from accident damage. The body is very straight with only a few minor dents. The front panel is an area which often gets damaged on old VW buses and this one is really nice with nice straight crisp pressing lines. The roof and guttering are really good. under the windscreen shows very little rust if any. Just one patch of surface rust. The upper body is really good.

The lower body does need some rust repair. There are so many parts available for these vehicles now that all repair pieces are available to repair this. The main areas of work are: Inner and outer sills. jack points. outriggers. rear of chassis. lower inch of sliding door. There are other repairs needed but that's the bulk of it. It is not to be confused with a similar vehicle that has been in the UK climate all its life where the rust is everywhere and you cant find the end of it. The vehicle has many good areas so you can cut back to good metal with relative ease.

The running gear is 100% complete and un messed with. 1600 engine with correct carb. air filter etc. original gearbox and all original brakes. steering etc.

WE HAVE CHANGED THE FUEL LINES. CLEANED OUT THE CARB. SET POINTS ETC AND ADDED FRESH PETROL AND IT STARTS RIGHT UP AND TICKS OVER NICELY. The vehicle now starts and runs and can be moved around under its own power.

Original keys are in the ignition and also work the door locks. The vehicle is factory fitted with an eberspacher petrol heater which can be seen in the left side of the engine compartment.

The interior is in rarely seen original red seats and door panels. These are in very good condition for their age and the seats are still well padded and not ripped. It is so rare to see this on a 47 year old vehicle. The headliner is in really nice condition. Nice and clean. not covered in stains. rips or hanging baggy. Its a really good feature as a good headliner installation will cost upwards of £700 and will unlikely be as good as the original factory fitted one.

If you are looking for a bay window that's worth restoring this winter then here it is. First year. original. unmolested. not picked for parts. rare colour interior.

I have followed the correct importation procedure and the vehicle has been entered into the HMRC NOVA system. A printout of their confirmation along with the vehicle documents come with it so registration in the UK will be easy. The vehicle must be MOT'd before it can be registered and registration costs only £55. An age correct number will be issued by the dvla.

Delivery within the UK can be arranged at reasonable cost otherwise collection is from us in Swansea.
