Becoming rare

When this car became available to buy in to stock I simply couldn't resist it.   It's certainly not our usual stock but it transported me back twenty years to when I first started in the motor trade and sold what used to be known as Metro's by the spade full.   Being a sentimental (middle aged) fool I've treated the car to much more preparation than I probably should have. and you'll see that the car has had a 58 point PDI check over which is usually reserved for our retail cars over £2k.   We've given the hydrogas suspension a check over and a refill (you try finding a garage who can do these!!!). we've given the car a new MOT. adjusted the belts. realigned slight knocks to the bumpers (they all have them) and checked all the fluids etc. . topping up where needed to ensure its ready you're you to enjoy.   I've enjoyed bringing this car back up to standard whilst retaining the patina. and now it's over to the Rover fans out there to decide if this one is one they want to preserve. or it's one for an enthusiast to use as a daily driver.   I will say that it is not one for the aficionado's. it has had an elderly owner and despite the wonderful photography the car is not mint. but it is very. very straight for the year and it drives beautifully. like a go-kart.

The car has been in the hands of one gentleman since 2001. the late Mr Bird has covered a tiny mileage and has kept the car in fine fettle.   The previous lady keeper had the car from new.   You won't find many of these cars with just over 62. 00 miles and such a low ownership. and let alone one that at this price point has been treated to the preparation we've put in to this car.

The garage that has looked after the car has sent us a print out of the care given to the car over the past few years and we can tell you that it was last serviced at 61. 45 miles.   It has done just over a thousand miles since.

We do hope that this car will go to a caring owner. because frankly the demise of the Rover brand is a true loss to the UK's once illustrious motor manufacturing industry. but the Metro/ 100 platform really was a little cracker back in the day. and when looking at it with the benefit of some decades. you really can see that these little cars were exactly what was right about the British motor car.   It was cheeky. it was a bit crude. but old chap it had (has) character and a determination that you simply don't get today.

Overview

A well preserved example of the once seen everywhere Rover 100.   This is the Ascot limited edition and it has been in the hands of just 2 keepers from new. the last since 2001.   The car has covered just 62. 00 miles. which we believe to be genuine.   Presented in Tahiti Blue and completely standard. this car is well presented for the year whilst retaining a gentle patina which only increases its charm.

We have both keys. the book folder and the service history book.   The car even has an alarm and fob (working)

Externally it is well presented.   There are some scuffs to the bumpers. and a little oxidation to one of the rear arches and the usual scuffs you pick up in the car park. but nothing that really detracts and we've rehung the bumpers to remedy the oft seen sag from a minor scuff (we think the old gal deserved that attention!).   When the car arrived it was sitting low at the front. and so we had the Hydrogas suspension refilled and the car now sits straight and true on all 4 corners.

Internally it is like going back to the eighties.   You sit low in these cars and it is so airy when compared to a modern car.   It is spacious too. you forget how much room a car of this vintage really offered.   Everything in here is original down to the radio.   There's nothing fancy here. no electric windows. no gizmo's. no power steering. just a little car that is designed to be comfortable for your buzzing about.

Mechanically the car seems fit as the proverbial.   We don't steam clean engines and so when you view the car you'll see the tale that the under bonnet tells you.   Regular maintenance was evident but this is supported by a service print out detailing the care given to the car since 2010.

The car drives superbly.   It feels frightfully fast thanks to it weighing the same as a cheese burger and having absolutely no safety bars/ air bags. sensors etc.   It is exceptionally good fun. and it is a rare car in that we've had to fuel it because we keep taking it out.

We have the book pack here. both keys. the service book has just 2 stamps in it. but clearly the car has been serviced more than this and that's evident when you drive the car.   This is further supported by the aforementioned service print out. showing servicing at 57k and 61k.   We have given the car 58 point PDI and a new MOT and we have also refilled the hydrogas suspension.

Conclusion

Just an honest and fun older super mini with low ownership. low miles and big fun for the money.   Is this a safe place to invest for the future?  No idea. but it's an ideal first classic or would make an interesting city commuter.   Why conform?

Berkshire.   You will find our service akin to dealing with a quality forecourt. but without the pressure.    As a result. you'll find our prices sharp and our cars sell very quickly indeed.
