A beautiful well cared for Mercedes SL (R129 )

Mercedes 320SL R129 1997 Face lift M104 engine with non panoramic hardtop 

 I am selling my old SL after owning her for just over 8 years. I am sad to see her go but I need to put the money into my old house so she is up for sale.  

 I purchased the car on the 12th of April 2008 and have had her serviced and maintained correctly in that time. Prior to my ownership she had been serviced correctly from day one. I have all MOT's apart form the first two as the car lived in France. The service book is also fully stamped up from day one. this is very important with these cars.

 In the time I have owned the car she has never let me down and except one failed MOT due to a high main beam. has never had another failure.

If you have never driven one of these cars they really do feel like they are made of one lump of metal. There are no creaks or rattles and the straight six just keeps pulling. She has been to Europe several times and will sit happily at 100mph all day. She is also wonderful on a winding B road at 40mph with the roof down and the wind in your hair. The heated seats mean it's also a pleasure to have to roof down in winter.

 Everything works as it should including ice-cold air-con. The car sits at 87c all day and the oil pressure sits between 3 and 2 on the gauge. On a motorway run she returns 32 mpg and around town it's about 25mpg.

 As I said the car has been serviced correctly but she has also had all of the weak areas of this model rectified or replaced whilst I have owned her. Additional work to mention in my ownership

2007: Roof control module replaced by Mercedes Basingstoke

2011: Front cylinder head valve cover seal replaced Mercedes Basingstoke

2012: Gearbox electrical plate replaced: Brian Nair Autos

2013: Air Mass Sensor replaced: Silchester Pagoda

2014:Water pump. wheel bearing. rubber suspension mounts all  replaced and wheels refurbed: BL Autos

2015: Rear axle oil changed: Local Garage

2015:Rear screen replaced on soft-top: D class Woking

2016:Theromstat replaced: By me

2016:Gear box metal cooler pipe replaced/Air Con compressor replaced Rocker cover seals replaced: Brian Nair Autos

 Over the years she has picked up scratches and parking dings and in late 2015 the car was also re-sprayed its original colour ( brilliant silver paint code 744) Pictures of this are available.

 Of course she is nearly 20 years old so not perfect.

 The wooden panel in the centre has started to lose its plastic coating. I have been told by D class that this can be taken off and refurbed for about £300

There is a small rust blister starting to appear on the drivers front wing it's a couple of centre meters in length but if you look its there

 The driver seat bolster has a small wear patch. This is common on these cars as the bolster is rubbed every time you get in and out

 and a few months after the respray the passenger door was given a small ding from someone banging there door into mine  in a car park.

I am happy to take you for a drive and send any additional photos. I would prefer cash on collection to avoid additional charges.  

I have a couple of questions relating to the hardtop. Yes it has one and it is in great condition
