Current customer rating: (829 votes ) based on1969 AMC Javelin SST Big Bad Blue
By the mid 1960's. AMC realized it was rapidly losing market share to Ford. span > GM and Chrysler due in large part to the growing demand for muscle and pony cars by younger buyers. Using an existing platform borrowed from Rambler. AMC re-tooled and entered the pony car arena in 1968 with the all new Javelin. It worked. The average age of the first 1. 00 Javelin buyers was 29 years old. A full 10 years younger than the average buyer of an AMC prior to the introduction of the Javelin.
1969 showed improvements and more options to the first model and that is what we have here. One of those options was a choice of three bold new colors called “Big Bad” colors in Orange. Green and Blue. Steel Affairs 1969 Javelin wears the optional “Big Bad” blue paint. The rarest of the three available.
Our car has Hooker headers. dual Holley 4 bbl carbs and a forged steel crank. From the Group 19 section (High Performance Equipment) of the AMC parts catalogue. it has an an aluminum Edelbrock cross ram intake. Other Group 19 parts include a cam kit and a 4:10 rear Detroit locking differential to go with the close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. All this adds up to 385h. p. and a means to put that power to the ground. Cosmetic cues include Magnum 500 wheels. exhaust looking rocker trim. simulated twin air scoops on the hood. rear roof spoiler. front chin spoiler and deck lid spoiler.
The paint is nice but not perfect. The interior is believed to be recently re-done and it shows. A statement from a previous owners says the seat cover as well as seat foam were replaced. The carpet has been replaced as has the headliner. The tires are good and are TA Radials.
The car runs very strong and has amazing curb appeal. This car stands out regardless of what it is parked beside.
If you're tired of the seemingly countless Chevelles. Camaros. Mustangs. Road Runners and Cuda's running around the streets. then it's time for you to step out of the box. This Javelin SST is believed to be just one of 37 built in '69 with this paint color and Group 19 performance equipment with a Hurst shifter. Now that's so far out of the box. you can't even see the box from where this car is!

On Jan-03-13 at 07:52:23 PST. seller added the following information:
I've been informed that the forged steel crank that I mention was part of the Group 19 options was in fact standard on a 390ci motor. Sorry. My bad.
