1956 was the last year for the knobby. P-38 inspired tail fins on the rear of most Cadillacs. including the $4. 87 Sixty Special. While the Cadillac division broke records by surpassing 150. 00 units. Sixty Special slipped to an even 17. 00 this year. Revamped trim included Cadillac crests on the front fenders. and a new grille. with a finer egg-crate design. bearing a Cadillac script emblem. mounted at an angle. on the driver's side. Sixty Special script appeared on the front fenders below the Cadillac crest for the first time in the series history. Rear fenders held a chrome bead running along the top. while massive chrome spears with hash marks replaced the 1955's delicate chrome louvrers on the rear sides. This chrome side trim morphed into the oval exhaust ports in the redesigned rear bumper. An anodised gold grille was optionally available on Sixty Special. while power brakes became standard equipment. New for 1956 was a larger 365 cu in power plant producing 285 horsepower combined with a revamped automatic transmission. Sabre Spoke wheels. became available for Sixty Special. while inside. passenger seat belts appeared on the option list.

This beautiful Cadillac. originally built in Detroit at the Cadillac Motor Division. was imported into the UK from Texas by the current owner. Having undergone restoration in 2008 using model correct colours of Sonic blue with Cobalt blue top the bodywork is in very good condition being filler and dent free. The interior is also model correct and in very good condition. The engine was extensively mechanically overhauled in 2003. A full vehicle report was carried out prior to purchase by a professional appraising company in the USA. who describe the Cadillac as "an extremely rare outstanding example of a rust free. original 1956 Cadillac" rated as a B+ "showable driver. " The report will be passed to the new owner. The engine bay would benefit from some work / detailing to make it complete. The chromework whilst overall in good condition and mostly original is showing small signs of age related wear. The report summary describes the vehicle as "an impressive car that shows and runs well. " "not a lot of restoration is left before the car is complete and eminantly showable. " "Car arguably has Concours d'elegance potential. due to its remarkable completeness and filler-free body. "
