Absolutely beautiful & very rare/original example of a 1985 Toyota SR5 4Runner Survivor. I bought it about 22 years ago from the "dry" desert area of Riverside California & it has lived indoors in California the majority of it's life.

This rare SR5 4Runner came with factory power windows. cruise control. electric antenna. inclinometer. rear heater  & a/c.
The a/c compressor is not currently hooked up as I just found & purchased a hard to come by 2L-T a/c compressor & bracket.
All the a/c components on the truck are all there & the lines have been capped off since the conversion was done.

It is still with it's original paint & looks beautiful. just take a look at the floors.
It has never been smoked in or abused in any way since it was new.

I have not detailed the underside as I wanted to show it how it looks after 31 years of service.

I had no choice a few years ago but to store it outdoors for one winter in the pacific northwest.
It was actually under a carport on gravel not a concrete pad & that is where the light "surface" rust had developed.   I then coated it with a marine grade acid rust inhibitor & that is what turns the frames a black with white color now it will be completed with a nice coat of black POR 15 paint.

This is as solid as they come. as the original welds & the door posts are as good as they get.

This was the last year of the straight solid front axle AND the first rear of fuel injection.

HOWEVER I removed the 22RE a few years ago & installed a smooth running rebuilt (15. 00 miles) Toyota 2L-T (turbo diesel) from a 1986 Hilux pickup.

The 2L-T's were available as an "option only" for sale in the US between 1985 thru 1987. this is a North American power plant NOT a Japanese Imported engine. Toyota used cast iron heads on there 2L-T's. nbsp; unlike the Mitsubishi's of the same era that used aluminum heads & therefore were more prone to problems. These are very reliable & tight little engines when one takes care of them as this fine example has been treated.

I  kept the original painted hood intact as I could not bring myself to cutting it for the Mustang 5. 0 inter-cooler.
And sound of the large 2. 5 inch straight exhaust system from the turbo back sure gets the heads turning.

Since this engine was offered as an option in the 1985 Toyota pickups it bolts right in to any 22RE truck or 4runner with NO cutting or welding whatsoever.
You just need the diesel bell housing. as the starter is on the drivers side on the diesels.

As for re-registering it back into California.
It will have to go to the Air Board referee (pretty standard for an engine change) here.
And since the 2L-T's were originally sold here as the 1985 Toyota sales brochure clearly states then it will be s pretty straight forward experience.

AND the mechanical Fuel Injection pump should see you right during any emp/solar flairs

The truck runs. drives & stops super smooth & straight down the road. The suspension is all stock with KYB Gas Adjust shocks front & rear. stock chrome SR5 wheels & tires & it has never been driven recklessly on or off road. Tires have some cracking from sitting in storage & I decided not to replace them as I feel tires are a personal choice.

This old survivor rides much like it did back at 100. 00 miles.
It is tight in steering & suspension. cruise's up hills nicely with the cruise on with plenty of torque to go. No shack. rattles or roll.

Fuel economy is reflective of how you drive it anywhere from 17 to 23 mpg.
Yet it can be hard to keep it on the higher side of mpg. as it is such a blast to get on it.

Here are a couple short video's showing it start up & running a couple days ago.

The second to last picture is the only reason I would even consider selling my beloved 4Runner after all of these years. Yet I wanted a solid 4 door now & am just completing the conversion of my FJ60 into a BJ60 diesel & I still have a really nice 1985 Toyota SR5 4x4 x-tra cab turbo diesel when I have the need for a two door again.

The very last picture shows how it looked when I first purchased it years ago before I removed all the factory graphics.
