This 1982 Mercedes 200T Estate has clearly been very well looked after for all its life. It's structurally. mechanically and cosmetically excellent. The exterior paintwork is Orient Red (501). which was a special order colour and the interior is Light Brown (034) fabric with vinyl side bolsters. The paintwork and upholstery really complement each other beautifully. There are very few W123's as good as this. its one of the best. The Orient Red paintwork has a deep lustrous shine. there's none is the usual surface corrosion. no bodywork damage. I haven't yet found a car park “ding”. When you look down the flanks of this Mercedes. they are straight and true. It must have had some new paintwork during its 34 years. but to a very high standard as there is no sign of over spray or running. Waxoyl has been regularly been applied and is one of the reasons why all wheel arch's are rust free. jacking points are sound. and the drainage holes at the bottoms of the doors are excellent. The chrome work has a mirror finish and again has no rust and all trim is present. All window rubbers. side mouldings and bumpers are fresh and show no perishing.
The interior is immaculate and that's a fair claim. The headlining. door cards and upholstery show nothing but very light patina. The carpets have always been covered and show just light age related use. There are no unpleasant damp or smoke odours ad the radio and speakers work as they should. This is a non sunroof car and so that gives one less rust concern. The windows are manual and function perfectly. The ventilation works correctly as do all other controls. The vacuum central locking works exactly as it should. The luggage area is also incredibly clean and is complete with the often misplaced load cover and safety net. The full tool kit. warning triangle. spare wheel. jack and first aid kit are all present. The wheel arch wells are clean and dry.
This W123 drives very well. it's solid with no rattles or rumbles from the suspension or drive train. Gear shifts are smooth. steering positive and there's no nasty smoke from the exhaust. While the exterior and interior is incredibly clean. the engine bay is original. a little dusty and oily and Waxoyl in all the important places.
The car has three former keepers and started life with its first owner near Manchester in 1982. It's second owner brought the car to Northern Ireland in 1997. it was then passed to his wife and then to its last owner in 2001. From 2004 to 2016 it was SORN'd. However it was regularly driven on a private road and stored correctly. There is a file of documents (approx 50) from 1997 to support its history. There are two sets of keys. an Owners Manual. Maintenance Booklet. and radio instructions.
A full recommissioning took place last month to include work to the front and rear brake calipers. new pads. new exhaust centre box. battery and fluids. A new MOT was issued and is valid until April 27th 2017. If you are looking for one of the best W123 Estates. that can give reliable every day service or indeed as an investment. this car is a serious contender. It is currently in Ireland. but transport to mainland UK can be arranged at very favourable rates.
