BUGATTI TYPE 59 UNFINISHED PROJECT. OVER £50,000 SPENT ON DEVELOPMENT!!

This auction is for an unfinished project to build a recreation of a 1930's Bugatti Type 59 open cockpit sports car.  
PLEASE NOTE: The unique 80 spoke "piano wire" wheels shown in the photos are available by separate negotiation. and do NOT form part of this auction. The project will be supplied with a set of 4 Lexus IS200 wheels. that allow the vehicle to be moved around. or you can simply purchase the replica "piano wire" wheels seen on the car in the photos (there are 5 of these replica Bugatti Type 59 wheels available)
For those interested. the 5 wheels are available for an additional £6000 if purchased with the rolling project listed here.

We also have the original tooling (mold) to make further one-piece GRP bodies. which is available to the purchaser of the rolling project for £5000

If the purchaser of the rolling project for sale on this listing wants the wheels and the molds to go with the project. they can be purchased together for an additional £7500.

What this auction consists of: The project consists of a newly fabricated (rolling) steel chassis with front dumb irons. which is designed to take the entire rear sub-frame from a Lexus IS200 or Lexus IS300 saloon (Lexus IS200's and IS300's are of good quality. and readily available at low cost) The Lexus IS300 rear sub-frame is currently fitted. and the V5 for all the donor vehicle parts. comes with this project. This design allowed for the use of the Lexus suspension. brakes. and hubs etc. It was also our intention to utilise the 6 cylinder Lexus engine in either 2000cc or 3000cc format (5 speed or auto)Also included is a full one-piece body molding in French racing blue gel-cote. which is photographed sitting on the chassis. A 3000cc straight six Lexus engine is included with the package. but is not fitted in the chassis. The pre-production front axle shown on the car is included. but was made as a template for a drop-forged axle that would resemble the original Bugatti Type 59 axle. This pre-production axle would not be suitable for road use.
The project currently has the rear sub-frame of the Lexus installed. and was in the process of having the dummy semi-elliptic springs mocked-up. ready to be fitted.  
Apart from the wheels. what you see in the photos. is what you get. For anyone not sure. the following applies:The car does not run. as there is no engine fittedThe car does not have an MOT!The car will have to be collected on a trailer from Manston in Kent. it can be wheeled onto or into a trailer--BUT IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN AWAY UNDER ITS OWN STEAM!!This car will not be ready to drive in a few days. it needs completing!
All the most expensive work has been carried out. for instance. the drawing. design and build of the chassis was in excess of £10. 00. The construction of the one-piece tooling (mold) and the first complete body seen in the photos. was in excess of £25000 (the tooling/mold necessary to build further bodies. is available by separate negotiation) There is a set of fully restored and re-wired Marchal Headlamps with re-silvered lenses and new glasses included with this package (worth £1500 on their own!). a set of elliptic Scintilla rear lamps (worth £350). a replica handmade 4-spoke walnut-finish Bugatti steering wheel (worth £750). a set of front leaf springs with slippers. lots of the Lexus donor car components. and the stainless steel radiator surround.
We no longer have the time to finish this project. as we are now too busy building the Molsheim Type 35 recreation (see www. justclassiccars. co. uk). so someone else can benefit from the £50. 00+ investment we have in this vehicle.

DETAILS ABOUT THE TYPE 59 REPLICA 19" WHEELS YOU SEE IN THE PHOTOS. THESE ARE AVAILABLE BY SEPARATE NEGOTIATION. IF YOU WANT THEM. AND WE AGREE A PRICE. WE WILL LIST THEM ON EBAY. ON A BUY-IT-NOW LISTING. IF YOU WANT THE TOOLING/MOLDS. THE SAME TERMS APPLY.
When we first set off on this Type 59 project. we decided that the most important and unique feature of a Bugatti Type 59. was it's superlative 19" "Piano Wire" wheels. complete with 80 individual "radial" spokes. Type 59 wheels are a work of art in their own right!We decided that without the correct-looking wheels. the car would not look like a Type 59. so when we were informed that exact alloy replicas of the original wheels would cost in excess of £10. 00 each (yes. EACH!!). we decided to commission and construct our own. with the result you see in the photos. Not alloy. not exact. but as close as we could get within a £12000 budget for all 5 wheels (including a spare) 
The wheels that you see in the photos were designed and constructed by a number of individual companies who specialised in the various processes of making such unique wheels. Once the central "cones" had been spun and the cones and rims had been joined and completed. the wheels were sent to Motor Wheel Services of Slough (MWS). who drilled and threaded the full set of 80 correctly positioned spokes. to the exact same pattern of the original Bugatti Type 59 wheels. These wheels were then shod with the correct and brand new 550/600 x 19" Blockley cross ply tyres and tubes. also supplied by MWS.
They will fit many different hubs. as they utilise back-plate/adapters (the current back-plate/adapters were made to allow the fitment of these wheels to Lexus or Jeep Cherokee hubs--same PCD's). If you wanted the wheels to fit other hubs. you could have new back-plate/adapters either laser or waterjet cut. and drilled for your own hubs accordingly.
