LOVELY 1977 MG MIDGET 1500 IN BRIGHT RED. EXCELLENT CONDITION, GREAT RUNNER for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2.05) based on 155 votes

You are viewing a 1977 MG Midget 1500 in lovely bright red. I am advertising this car for a customer. He has owned the car since 2005 and his father owned it before him since 1994. The car underwent significant restoration in the late 90's and still looks and drives great today. This Midget is a real gem of a classic car and with Midget prices still being sensible this is perfect for those looking for an introduction to classic motoring or those who always wanted to get behind the wheel of a classic British sports car.

I have tried to detail as much information as possible for prospective buyers. Please read below for a detailed description of the car.

Engine Condition

The standard 1493cc engine is the same engine that was used in the Triumph Spitfire and mated to its original dual HS4 Carburettors it produces 65bhp. In a car that weights only 750kg it gives the Midget plenty of pull on the road. The engine starts first time every time and runs really sweet. Its revs cleanly and accelerates great.  The 4-speed gearbox is smooth and the gears are easily selected. The engine has been well looked after over the years with extensive service history which I will outline in more detail later. Overall the car runs great and could easily be used every day if wished.

Bodywork Condition

As you can see from the pictures the bodywork on this MG is in very good condition for its age. The car underwent a full restoration in the late 90's and still looks great today. There is some rust on the arch of the driver's side rear quarter panel just above the mud flap. Obviously it's not a MOT issue but will need attention in the next couple of years. There is also some blistering to the bottom of the passenger door. The only other thing on the bodywork worth a mention is that the boot lid sits a bot proud and could do with some adjustment. Obviously these are very minor issues on a 38 year old car but I wanted to paint the full picture for you. Under the car is great and the MOT tester commented on just how solid the car is underneath. This is in part due to the vehicle receiving regular waxoil treatments over the years. In summary the bodywork is very good and could be great with just a couple of very little jobs done. It really must be seen to be appreciated.

Interior Condition

The interior is a nice comfortable place to be and is again in excellent condition. The black vinyl seats are both in excellent condition as is the dashboard. door cards and carpets.  The fold down top is in excellent condition. There is one press stud missing on the body next to the driver's door but can be replaced in minutes (they are only a few pence on eBay). Specification wise the Midget has a rev counter and also has a retro radio cassette fitted. The car comes with the soft top cover that goes over when the top is down. Also included is a vinyl interior cover that covers the interior when the roof is down. This is zipped down the middle so can be used when just a driver is present in the car.

Exterior Features

The car is completely standard and has all the original outside features. The car received 5 new tyres (includes spare) last year and they have only covered about 400 miles.

Service History.

This car has wanted for nothing all its life and comes with an extensive service portfolio. There are receipts and copies of receipts for servicing and parts as well as previous owners notes regarding servicing going right back to 1984. Also included are lots of photographs from the restoration that the car had. There are also lots of old MOT certificates going back to the early 90's. You'll be hard pushed to find another 70's classic with such extensive history still present.

Last year the car had quite a bit of work done as it hadn't been used for a couple of years. This included the rear brakes being overhauled. new brake lines. new float needles and five new tyres. In total the work came to over £800 and the receipt is present. The car has just gone through its MOT again this year with no advisories and it is now not due until June 2017.

Summary:

In summary this is a great classic car and fantastic example of a British sports car of yesteryear. It is advertised for here for £2. 95. Both me and my customer feel this is a sensible price for this MG Midget. Prices for these are really on the climb so this represents a great investment for someone. Offers are of course welcome.
