We sold this British Racing Green Triumph TR4 fifteen years ago to a long term regular customer. a business owner in Driffield. Since 2001. the TR4 has had regular local summer use and has been a true delight to own. Over the fourteen years he owned the car. the TR4 has only covered around 1000 miles averaging just over 70 miles per year. Every year the Triumph has been put through an MOT test and serviced and therefore ready at any time to be taken out. driven and enjoyed. Over the recent long term ownership. the TR4 has only seen rain once. during its farewell drive the day before being driven over to us from nearby Driffield. It has been incredibly well maintained and has been carefully looked after over the past fourteen years. The TR4 came back to us after fourteen years in exchange for a Triumph TR6. We sold the TR4 quickly during the summer of 2015 and carried out an extensive programme of work at the request of its new owner. This included removing the cylinder head and carrying out an unleaded head conversion. We the inspected the engine and undertook a bottom end rebuild to include new piston rings. conrod's and bearings. Further work included vapour blasting the carburettors and manifolds. fitting a new rear bumper and more recently the TR has been treated to a new servo and brake master cylinder. Due to lack of use. the TR4 has now come back on the market.
ANU 407A was manufactured in 1963 and supplied new to the U. S market. The TR4 came over to the UK in 1994 and was comprehensively restored in left hand drive format. We. as Grundy Mack Classic Cars sold the car in 1998 and reported that the car had a recent bottom end engine rebuild. We also commented on the car having excellent paintwork. bodywork and high standard of upholstery. The TR was converted to right hand drive format before coming back to us in 2001 and selling to the previous owner.
The Triumph comes with a comprehensive file of invoices dating back to 1995 and as a result we have evidence to show how well maintained this car has been. Although the car has covered such low mileage in recent years. it has had annual improvements and lots of detailed work carried out. More recently. the TR4 has been treated to a full re-paint due to the 20 year old plus paintwork fading in areas. The car today has a stunning. gleaming finish and is complimented by the BRG painted wire wheels. The bodywork is superb with lovely straight panels and clean lower wings and wheel arches that have no rust issues. The car is structurally excellent and certainly presents incredibly well. The chrome work is of a very high standard. the hood is excellent and the engine bay has nicely painted inner wings. The upholstery is outstanding considering the car was re-trimmed so many years ago. The black with white piping seats are very smart. as are door cards. carpets and walnut dash. The car has a smart interior and has clearly been incredibly well looked after since restoration.
On the road ANU 407A is impressive with excellent performance and a strong engine holding very good oil pressure. The TR is quick. holds the road superbly and has a strong gearbox with working overdrive. The brakes have been regularly serviced and are therefore efficient. the steering and handling are tight and the TR4 is fabulous fun on the road. This is a great opportunity to purchase a top class driving and beautifully presented TR4 that is capable of regular use. It feels honest. useable and really must be enjoyed.
